In rural areas that's exactly what people do... I have a roll of TP in
my tractor.

Yeah, yeah when necessary, occasionally, whatever. But I bet y'all
have toilets. Flushable and all.

I won't address the validity of your claim. I don't have to because I would never say that I love animals.

They say in Paris you can take a leak right on the sidewalk.

True in most of Europe, they've got phone booth-like stalls at the
curb with an attendant to sell you TP. Most restaurants in Europe
have men's rooms with a pee trough, no individual urinals. I've not
seen it but I've been told the ladies rooms have holes in the floor
with marks for feet for squatting. Of course those who stay at
American style accomodations really haven't seen Europe.

I've never seen it in 45 years of living in Europe.

Both types are common.

This is a southern European thing only and it's not at all limited to
ladies rooms. They consider this type of toilet more hygienic, because
you don't make contact with anything. Unless you lose your balance

Incidentally, the only place I have seen the hole in the floor for women,
was in India.

I have lived in various places in Europe but I have never seen it there.

Several years ago I've read of just that for Paris. It was a specific
change they made some time ago because so many men were making the
streets their personal toilet without concealment. I remember
something about the hole in the floor facilities for women but nothing
other than that.

I read in Paris only if you walk into say a store you are supposed to speak to each person and tell them goodbye when you leave, it's rude not to do that.

I have been to Europe several times and travelled through France,
Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Estonia
and only saw an attendant in one washroom. He kept the place clean
ensured there was toilet paper. He did not sell it.

He lives in a country where washrooms in restaurants have big signs
saying that employees must wash their hands.

I never considered the UK as part of Europe anymore than Greenland is
a part of Europe.. I think the UK is a bit more civilized too. And
didn't that Brexit thing kind of firm up the separate and apart
distinction?

All over France and Italy... in most parts there are no sewer systems,
the waste line goes out onto the street. In the rural farming ares
most still use out houses and no indoor plumbing.

I've been all through the interior of France, Italy, etc... all like
living in the dark ages... even in the big cities the bars, restos,
and night clubs have very atiquated toilet facilities.... and even
though it was a long time ago that I was there I know from friends
it's still the same. They don't call Naples the cesspool of the Med
for nothing.

I don't follow politics... you must have noticed that I rarely have
anything to contribute to political threads.
I always thought EU is a form of Eeeeewww... I really don't know what
EU is.

Of course, but "to speak to each person and tell them goodbye when you
leave" is another matter entirely. These things are not that different
in Europe from the US or Canada.

Well I don't want to get into politics either but ... You know Europe? It is
a mass of land made up of different countries

!

The European Union is a 'Government' set up to rule over the countries which
have joined. That government has not been voted in but has huge power over
those countries.

When we joined it was supposed to be a Common Market but since then it has
grown intolerably and has taken on huge powers to itself. We have decided
we are tired of being ruled by an unelected bunch of *&&!!!* if you see what
I mean? We are sick of having to live our lives by rules that have no
relevance to us! So, we voted to leave! They don't like it and will do
their best to punish us, but we just want to live our own way under a
government we have elected!

It would help if he specified that he's talking about the 1800s.

it's possible you will be back in the EU if there's a second referendum
for Scotland's independence
