True in most of Europe, they've got phone booth-like stalls at the curb with an attendant to sell you TP. Most restaurants in Europe have men's rooms with a pee trough, no individual urinals. I've not seen it but I've been told the ladies rooms have holes in the floor with marks for feet for squatting. Of course those who stay at American style accomodations really haven't seen Europe. |

This is a southern European thing only and it's not at all limited to ladies rooms. They consider this type of toilet more hygienic, because you don't make contact with anything. Several years ago I've read of just that for Paris. It was a specific change they made some time ago because so many men were making the streets their personal toilet without concealment. I remember something about the hole in the floor facilities for women but nothing other than that. Janet US |

I read in Paris only if you walk into say a store you are supposed to speak to each person and tell them goodbye when you leave, it's rude not to do that.

The European Union is a 'Government' set up to rule over the countries which have joined. That government has not been voted in but has huge power over those countries. When we joined it was supposed to be a Common Market but since then it has grown intolerably and has taken on huge powers to itself. We have decided we are tired of being ruled by an unelected bunch of *&&!!!* if you see what I mean? We are sick of having to live our lives by rules that have no relevance to us! So, we voted to leave! They don't like it and will do their best to punish us, but we just want to live our own way under a government we have elected! HTH ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

It would help if he specified that he's talking about the 1800s. |

Of course, but "to speak to each person and tell them goodbye when you leave" is another matter entirely. These things are not that different in Europe from the US or Canada. |
