Default Boy, Was I disappointed

I hit the supermarket at lunch time today as I was shopping for
dinner. I passed the olive bar ( was really hungry) and I spied
marinated mushrooms and marinated artichoke hearts. I thought I'd get
a little of both for my lunch and treat myself.
Darn! I was looking forward to the bite of vinegar, the slide of good
olive oil, the pungency of oregano and garlic, maybe a bite of pepper.
Nada. They were both soooo bland. These things might as well have
been in water. I'm going to have to make some marinated mushrooms for
myself very soon.

I hate when that happens, have your taste buds all set to go, expectations
of a certain taste...and then a let down.

Don't try it here. They have special sample cases to the side you can
try, but not for the main bar stock.

Salad bars in restaurants were specified. I don't think the restaurant
owner would appreciate a customer cutting up veggies in their restaurant.

Really? You mean my local grocery store doesn't have an olive tree
out back to stock its olive bar? Dang!

Marinated olives/mushrooms are not packed in cans (salt/vinegar would
erode the metal cans and they'd leak), they are packed in glass
jars... delis get them in gallon jars... also available in five gallon
plastic tubs.
Those sold at the typical deli are not very strongly flavored on
purpose, they have to appeal to the average customer.
Everything sold at stores comes from a food factory somewhere.
