There's way more to Prime than just shipping. I also use Amazon Smile which donates a percentage of each purchase to a non profit that I choose to support. |

I no longer impulse buy stuff I don't need, to get the free shipping. Things arrive faster and i can get a single item without the hassles of waiting until I have enough needed things to hit the 5-7 day free shipping. It's because just often enough I really NEEDED something fast (for work) that I was spending more than 99$ a year anyways in shipping. -- |

Actually, I can't even remember the last time I was in there. But now, every time I drive by, there is plenty of parking. I think the problem for them at least in this area is that they are not unique any more. We have a local chain called PCC. Smaller stores but pretty much the same and their produce is always perfect. They also go the extra mile in giving free produce for kids. The kid can choose anything they want. If it's pineapple, the produce person will cut a serving of it for them. In addition, all of the stores here offer organic food now. And grass fed meats. And pretty much anything else WF carries. So there isn't much of a need for them any more. |

Ever hear how he started Amazon? https://www.biography.com/people/jeff-bezos-9542209 Amazon started as an online *book store*. Brilliant! Bezos had the vision to realize the Internet and personal computer technology was about to explode. People would be shopping online. He's smart. He was two steps ahead. Unlike John Kuthe, with all his claims of having various college degrees... Jeff Bezos had a vision and started a company that changed the retail market. Do I pay for Prime? No. I don't buy enough items in a year to find it worthwhile. But I credit Jeff Bezos for the invention of online shopping. Jill |

For me it's just the opposite, most every item I buy costs less from Amazon Prime... and if I find an item a couple of bucks cheaper elsewhere Amazon Prime's free shipping more than makes up the difference... I won't even purchase OTC meds and toiletries from some brick and mortar because it's always less expensive from Amazon Prime considering driving around to stores... and then not finding what I want and having to settle. |

News of the sale caused all other food stocks as well as big box store (Costco, Sams) to drop some real percentage points. I didn't check at the end of the day to see if those stocks recovered by the end of trading. Walmart lost points and they were just entering the food delivery market. Janet |

Bought my first PC in 1985, with two floppy drives, no hard drive. Upgraded to a 386 about 1990 or so but it was another year of two before I got a modem and Compuserve. I just checked my order history with Amazon. Quite a difference from early on to now. 2000 2 2001 0 2002 1 2003 0 2004 2 skip forward a few years 2015 52 2016 56 Toss in a few orders from eBay, Penzeys, Overstock, etc you can see I do a lot of shopping at home these days. I just had some shorts delivered from another store. I paid $10 for shipping but I saved $5 in gas and about 90 minutes in time. I've even bought furniture on line. Though I did not buy my car on line, I did all the research and pricing and got the best deal when I did go to the showroom and completed the sale in minutes. |

Henry Ford didn't invent the automobile, either, but he certainly had a big impact on that industry. Cindy Hamilton |

What better way than to buy extra storage to put all the useless junk we've acquired and pay --again!-- to store it all in a chain (look online!) storage space. I made pretty good money on Friday and Saturday with tips. That type of store is long gone though. |

I can see it if you own a boat but just to put "stuff" in, seems like a yard sale would be smarter. Also, I see people that have yard sales every year. What do they have to sell so often? Maybe they should have not bought it in the first place. I don't stop at yard sales either. If you don't want it, doubt that I do either. |

We weren't talking about big or small impact but about: "But I credit Jeff Bezos for the invention of online shopping." Which is incorrect. |

That type of >store is long gone though. Still many mom n' pop groceries in large urban centers, and they still deliver by bicycle, because it's primarily a young teen's job and they don't don't have a driver's license. Many small markets/bodegas in NYC have 14 year olds deliver with a delivery push cart that fits into apartment building elevators, can deliver like ten customers in one building, I did that more than 60 years ago.... those carts had bicycle wheels for easy pushing, some two, some three. Growing up in Brooklyn horse drawn carts were all over, selling anything you can think of... also buying anything you can think of... horse drawn junk carts (not drugs) meandered up and down every street with their cow bells announcing their presence; I CASH CLOTHES, ANY OLD JUNK! Summers the ice man, winters the coal man... carts selling fresh meat, fresh fish, produce, knife/scissor sharpening, even shoe repairs. Early mornings before school my mother would send me out with my Radio Flyer wagon to scour streets for dropped coal and horse manure for the garden. |

While there are still lots of big houses being built around there, there are more and more smaller places being built. Some are going to first time home owners and lots are going to older people who are downsizing. The have likely accumulated a lot of stuff over the years and don't want to part with some of their stuff. If I were to move into a smaller place and had limited garage space I would have to consider a storage unit for some of my toys. I have two sea kayaks and a nice 16 foot cedar strip canoe, a motorcycle and a a bunch of furniture I would need to store. > > Arrghhhh! ....don't get me started. ![]() > > nb > > |
