There's some funny (but serious too) things about a city in Canada
where it's illegal to lock your car because they have to be open for
emergency escape from Polar Bears.

There's a place in the US where it's illegal to walk through the main
street with a moose on a leash unless you're wearing a skirt.

Car alarms often have their own independent power source. I know this
because I have removed a flat battery from my car and it set off my
alarm. I could not disarm it with the fob because I had no battery in
the car. I had to use the manual key thing that came with the car for
this purpose.

That should be the case in parts of Australia too, to escape the Drop

Not from the Spanish talking part of the population...

LOL

Our car is nearly 30 years old: Mazda 121 (first series) aka Kia Pride aka
Ford Festiva - a co-production. A few years from now, it will be an
Old-timer with all the privileges.

Bye, Sanne.

Cool) You might know our cars as 'Shogun'. That is the
modern name for them)
Mine has Pajero all over it but someone has put a Shogun sign
on it Maybe they were Spanish <g>

Ah... my most embarrassing high school moment. I pronounced Chopin as
in "choppin' wood". I still think I was right and everyone else is
still wrong.

Frédéric François Chopin: /ˈʃoÊŠpæn/; French: [fÊedeÊik fÊɑ̃swa ʃɔpɛ̃]
(from wikipedia)
Your pronunciation wasn't completely right, but closer to his original name
than the French one. But teachers are always right... ;-(

Bye, Sanne.

I knew it! Thanks, sanne! End of discussion. I don't want to hear
anything else. Fingers pushing my ears closed. Na na na na na na na.
..!. to my teacher and those who laughed at me.
There may be a few smiley winkeys in my rant.

<G> Made a video of your victory dance?

"shoppen" should sound about right, so no much difference to your
pronunciation.
Are they able to pronounce "Champs Elysée" right? - Hint: It shouldn't sound
like "Champs ally this". Nice thought, though.

Bye, Sanne.

Schom deli say? Why don't they spell it like that? ;-) Thanks sanne,
this has been fun for me. I hope nobody else responds, because that
probably won't be fun for me.

LOL. Same happened with me in 7 grade English class. Teacher was having
each student stand up and read a couple of paragraphs from the textbook.
Why she felt that was educational, I'll never know. Maybe just to
introduce us to public speaking?

Anyway, my turn came and in my part was the word, "mosquito."
I had never seen it written before plus I was probably nervous talking
to the class. Anyway, I pronounced the word as:

Moss-ka-toe. lol!

All the class started laughing.

Then me slapping my forehead and like Homer simpson, "DOH!"

Why on earth would she have an empty purse in the car?

When car alarms first became prevalent it didn't take long for people to
become completely inured to them. You'd hear a car alarm shrieking and
beeping and if you looked, no one was anywhere near the vehicle. A good
stiff wind could set them off. Hopefully they've improved over the
years.

Many years ago I worked with a nurse from Kenya, and he'd pronounce
mosquito as "moss-kwee-toe". I still get a chuckle thinking about it. It
was cute.
