Default No July 3rd/4th Grilling...

It has been pouring down rain since last night.

Sans rain I would have grilled some yellow squash and zucchini. Brushed
with a little neutral oil and sprinkled with salt & pepper. But the sky
fell out. No grilling corn on the cob, either. It will likely rain for
the next two days.

Today I'm cooking indoors. Using the oven and the stovetop. A small
steak and potatoes and steamed squash.

It's cloudy and cool here today. Perfect for using the oven but I don't need
to. Our guest left early which is fine. She has to be at the Everett Transit
Station early tomorrow morning and we weren't thrilled to have to take her
there. So she is staying at her sister's house tonight instead. That means
that we have plenty enough prepared food for dinner. Guest is a very picky
eater so I took her to the store and bought only what she would eat.
Normally we dine out when she is here but I put my foot down on that and
said that I just can't keep doing that.

I am hoping my gardener will come. Has been over a month now since he has
come. His wife gave my friend (also his customer) and I so many excuses now
that it's getting to be comical. One excuse was that he was on a special job
in Eastern Washington and got heat exhaustion. Although that is plausible,
there have been far too many excuses as to why he once again could not come
to work. I need to get the baked beans ready for the Crock-Pot but I have an
extreme grass allergy so don't want to be anywhere near where he is working,
if in fact he does show up. I threatened the wife on Sat. and said if they
can't get the job done, I would have to hire someone else.

It's typical to have thunderstorms this time of year. But for some
people rain is a bummer because they like to cook for this particular
holiday outdoors, using a grill.

It's rained off and on, dark and ominous looking, then sunny
skies, all day here. It finally cleared so I could fire up
the Weber and I'm smoking two pork butts to take to my
sister-in-law's house tomorrow.

A Ree Drummond (Pioneer Woman) cherry dump cake will make
the journey as well.

It was a very nice day yesterday, so it was grilled chicken with
barbecue sauce. In this vicinity that's usually
called barbecued chicken. No smoke was involved, so out of
deference to barbecue purists everywhere, I didn't use the local
appellation.

Also had grilled corn on the cob, partially husked, soaked for a couple
of hours.

No idea what's on for tonight. I'll begin the negotiation process
with the spouse soon, in case I have to defrost something. I'm
pretty confident the grill will be involved.

Or more commonly here, "Happy 4th." We all know the month and the
meaning. :-D
