Diet soda is a soft drink. Such as Diet Coke. They use an artificial sweetener instead of sugar or HFCS. I generally drink Diet Coke with Lime but also some of the fruit flavored ones. Not a fan of Mountain Dew so much. Some Ginger Ale is good, but some is too bitey for me. Don't like Root Beer, Cream Soda, Dr. Pepper or Pepsi. |

Yes, getting kittens or puppies from a shelter is still better than going to a breeder, if you ask me. Breeders shouldn't exist while there are still lots of shelter animals looking for a home. |

So anyway, she was taken from her mother and siblings very young, then kept all alone in a cage at the pet store. That must have been a bit traumatic for her. I consider her as a rescue in a way too. We bonded immediately and I took her home to be a mate with Fred and she took to him immediately too. |

I have just as much right to voice my opinion here as anyone else. Please excuse the critter comment/analogy but Gary is literally beating a dead horse. And after about a year of posting a torrent of crocodile tears Gary has offered not one good reason for not replacing his pet... after a year "NOT BEING READY" is not any kind of reason... makes as much sense as a 40 year old woman not being ready to lose her virginity. |

As I took care of my mom's dog (on her dime) and the dog became older, I ended up paying $2.50+ per can of prescription dog food. The trips to the vet --for one reason or another-- became more and more espensive. Her dog was finally put down at the ripe old age of 17 yrs old. I wanted to get my own dog, but realized I could not care for it like I would have liked. This after my brother (still in CA) told me about his dog. We were talking on the phone when he sed he'd hafta go, as his dog was not feeling well. I talked to him the following night and learned he now owed the vet $1,500USD. (shudder) nb |

This works better than Have-A-Heart: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too...2254_200622254 And I'm not the only one in this farming community who cares for feral cats... cats don't eat crops but they keep the rodent population way down... if not for feral barn cats it would cost twice as much to keep a horse fed... if not for feral cats dairy would cost a whole lot more. I made a small opening in my vegetable garden fence so the ferals can get in to patrol, no more rodents eating my crops. The feral cats more than earn their keep. |

That would have cost us a few thousand £s. I don't know what pet insurance is like in the UK, but the insurance plans I've investigate here are not worth much except for annual checkups, vaccinations, and other minor procedures. The premiums for 4 cats is also expensive. When Peanut was having serious digestive issues and eye problems, we spents thousands on him and the insurance we could have had would not havae covered the cost of what the vets did. Wayne Boatwright == Perhaps I didn't make it clear, our Insurers paid the money to the Vet's Hospital! I was making the point that it would have cost US that much had we not had been insured. OK just checked, Our insurers paid the Vet's Hospital over £2,000.00 for Bonnie. We mainly have it in case they get serious problems like Bonnie did! We have an excess of £25 after which the Insurance pays the rest. That doesn't sound like your insurance is worth a lot ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

I totally agree Ophelia. I see some go crazy adopting more than they can afford the vet care for and whine that they are too tender hearted to turn down another. Sane people caluculate the finances and limit to what they can afford. For me, that is 3 pets total for 75$ a month pet plan (25$ each) and anticipated extra bills of 600$ each per year (most years it isnt that much). That and food of course. Food runs about 180$ a month. Thats a base load of 255$ a month here plus an extra tucked away 150$ a month for unanticipated vet bills. If it helps to understand, My husband and I specifically adopt the 'unadoptable' elderly medical issue pets. That means we *expect* higher medical bills. When Iowna came down with Vestibular Disease (often called old dog syndrome, can be many things including brain cancer but can be easily recovered from if other causes and treated right away), it cost 850$ in IV's and emergency pet treatments plus medications and an overnight pet hospitalization. I don't know the finances other others here (nor should I) but pressing someone to adopt when they aren't ready, just isn't right. For all we know, Gary is still paying off bills for Mia and not really able to assume more cost (Financial or in the heart). BTW, I can't take a second cat while Daisy-chan lives. She's a true rescue feral and will not tolerate another cat. One of the more charming parts of her mile long rap-sheet was 'cat-killer'. She's tamed pretty well now over the last 10 years but she's never been or will be a lap-kitty (except when you are sound asleep and it's warmer on your tummy). -- |

She is still terrified of quick noises, like dropping something in the kitchen, the sound of foil crinkling etc., but doesn't mind fireworks or thunder at all. Also goes completely berserk over a fly buzzing or flying bug, but I think that's probably because they drove her crazy when her muzzle was torn like that. Cheri |

We had insurance on all 5 cats some years ago. Initially we took all 5 for an annual exam and any vacinatons they needed. For there was a copay of $50 per cat. About a year later we took Millie (now deceased) to determine what was causing her kidney problems. Xrays revealed that she had kidney stones, and also that her kidneys were beginning to fail. She had surgery to remove the kidney stones and total bill was $1800, with no discount. She later began treatment for her kidneys and each monthly visit visit was $125 plus the solution that we had to inject once a day. As soon as our contract expired we did not renew it. Pet insurance in the US is a complete ripoff. Wayne Boatwright === Why didn't the insurance pay that bill?? It has always been worth it for us. As it happens, Poppy hasn't needed much vet care but we like the back up. We certainly got more than our money's worth with Bonnie. -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

He only attempted if someone was interested in getting a Wire Hair Terrier. It wound up being a job that did not pay well. The people who wanted them lived in other states so he had to put them on a plane. |

I pay almost $70 a month for each cat. I didn't have it for Jetta for awhile but now she needs a teeth cleaning. The amount I pay covers the teeth cleaning, normal shots, a certain number of vet visits (I think 5) per year and fecal testing. I think that is up to 2-3 times per year. The main reason I get it is for the teeth cleaning. Would cost more without it. |

The pet insurance market here is almost useless. Not at my vet. Of course the insurance only applies to them. I couldn't take them elsewhere and use it. |
