We did this routine several years ago. It's aggravating. There is
nothing wrong with the stores. It doesn't matter which store, there
is no customer service.

Well that's an out and out lie. I don't think Grocery Outlet has a customer
service desk. Not sure about PCC. Central Market does not. The rest do but
they do more than just that. Some rent movies, some sell lottery tickets,
tobacco, money orders, liquor and other things.

A store doesn't need a dedicated customer service desk in order to
provide customer service.

The store just needs employees who are willing to help the customers.
Easy peasy.

She should be thankful there wasn't a guy in a turban chasing her with

The stores here are pretty much self serve. Even the checkouts.

I guess I lucked out today. Went into the India Super Market today. I think
I was the only while person in there. Don't remember seeing any turbans but
they were selling brooms. I bought two naan pizzas. They are in the oven
now.

I predict that turbans are going to be trending. Brooms probably won't be but guys that wear turbans as so cool that they wouldn't be caught dead with one in their hands. Congrats on the naan pizzas. Really.

The brooms they had were kinda cool. Looked hand made. Also had some really
cheap Tiger Balm. I don't need either at the moment though.

Which is why I never got a handicapped placard for myself. I have seen this
happen too many times. I just drive around until I find something close or
in some cases just do not go to the place.

Thing is the people working the customer service desk are indeed store
employees who help customers, however those store employees have the
authorazation to perform certain tasks that the other store employees
can't do; like issue rain checks, accept returns, usually issue money
orders, etc. Every supermarket I've ever been to has a customer
service desk... and one job they rarely do is direct customers to
product location... for that ask those stocking shelves and department
managers. I very often ask the meat department manager for a
particular cut of a particular weight, the customer service desk can't
help with that.

True, but just because they're not out on the floor doesn't mean they
can't tell you if they carry a specific item. Case in point: I shopped
with my neighbor a couple of weeks ago. She couldn't find the bread
she's been buying for years. The store/floor employee tried to help her
find it, to no avail. We went to the customer service desk, they looked
it up. Hmmm, yes, they did carry it but they didn't deliver any that
week. No guarantee they didn't discontinue it, but both the person on
the floor and the person at the customer service desk checked to see if
they could order it for her. She might not be able to get it again, but
they tried to help.

Asking in specific areas of the grocery store for certain things I can't
find is never a problem for me. There's always an employee around. If
they don't know the answer, they'll find someone who knows.

I say again, she must shop in some really **** poor stores if no one can
answer a simple question about what they carry.

I don't think Fred Meyer is a **** poor store. And they are more than just a
grocery. I once asked a clerk about pita bread. I did find a soon to expire
package thrown on some wrong aisle so I know they sell it. She had no clue
where it was. I am guessing they were just out on that day. I have seen it
since. Thing is, I do know how to read SEMs and there was none on that day.
I don't know their policy. Perhaps they remove the SEM when something is
sold out?
