Default More about apple butter

This was discussed lately and some here didn't know what it was.

At my grocery store this morning, I saw it sold as a new product. It's
all natural with no chemicals added as they often are.

Just so you all know, I wrote down the ingredients:

- apples
- pure cane sugar
- cinnamon
- cloves
- molasses

That's it. I didn't buy any but I do remember eating that as a kid.
I would spread it on buttered toast just like jam. It's good enough but
not really all that, to me...

Same here, Gary. It was mostly a fall/winter toast jam as we would can it
when the apple crops were at peak season in our northern climate
(Sept/Oct). I always preferred raspberry and other fruits to the apple
butter, but I still liked it.

It's good on hot buttered biscuits but I am a bit surprised to
see molasses as an ingredient. That will definitely change the
taste of the end product.

My grandmother used to make a lot of it and cooked pork chops with it often.
I always liked it, but only made it a couple of times.

I never thought to do pork chops with it. Not that I have any to do them
with. I usually do fried apples with pork chops. Although I don't always
have apples either.

I'd like to try a tsp of apple butter in a bowl of oats.

A teaspoon would barely add flavor if any at all.
