I have seen several people talking about these kind of accounts which are
unknown to me, so this may or not be of interest.

The Securities Exchange Commission just made serious changes to the
financial system under Money Market Fund Reform. These MMF rules have had a
life-altering, negative impact on retirement accounts across the country.

Like most hard-working Americans, youve spent considerable time and effort

Hi Ophelia,

Thats probably a spammer who wants you to pay them 2% of your IRA to
convert it to them.

I googled the phone number. It resolves to GSI Exchange.
According to the Better Business Bureau, they've been in business
2 years and their "business category" is Coins, Stamps & Precious Metals Dealer.

So, kind of like a pawnshop, only more classy. Google street view
of their address shows a small, well-kept office building with a
"spaces for rent" sign out front.

Ok but does what they are saying about savings being at risk have any truth?

I would have thought that was more important!

As I said, I don't even know what those things are, but having heard some
posters speak about them, I thought it might be at least of interest.

They're probably trying to sell people on gold. Look up Money Market
Reform and you'll see it's new rules to stabilize money markets.

Not much.

Well, here's some stuff from
<http://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/042116/4-factors-know-about-money-market-reform-2016-fii-bac.asp>

Many investors, especially institutions, face increased risks or lower
yields on their short-term money, while fund providers must reconsider the
worth of their offerings.

And a bit lower down on the page:

The most significant rule change, the floating NAV, is not likely to
affect investors who invest in retail money market funds.

And still lower:

Most of the major fund groups, such as Fidelity Investments, Federated
Investors Inc. and Vanguard Group, already plan to offer viable alternatives
to their investors.

So the panic is pretty much a non-issue.

I don't personally have much (or any) invested in money market funds,
because the return is so low.

Thanks, very much Nancy

We are aware of the gold market, my husband is a buyer and seller, but of
course not in the US.

We didn't know that gold was being used to stabilise your money markets

Interesting stuff

Thanks again

Don't be such a baby, Oph. All here looked up and gave their
opinion of the article. Just because many debunked the story, no
one here "slammed" or even "challenged" you. They were talking
about the article not about you. In real life people do disagree
sometimes. Heaven help Janet UK if she had commented on it.
