OK, so 2-3 weeks ago the microwave discussion was going on, and my
microwave, an Oster, started making a very loud noise. It was cheap so
thought I would replace it. After hearing that people really liked the
Panasonic with inverter, I purchased one even though the last Panasonic I
had didn't last particularly well, this new one is not the expensive model,
but cost $135.00, $55.00 more than the Oster I had. Guess what, today there
was a really loud pop, no lights and the inside felt very hot. The power to
it was working fine, I have a dedicated line for the microwave, so boxed it
up to take back. I am DONE with Panasonic, and will repurchase the Oster.
LOL

My neighbors daughter gave me an an Emerson microwave that belonged to her aunt. It works fine and I'd guess it to be 20 yrs old.

Probably made a lot better, things these days seem to be made to throw away
every time a new bell or whistle is added. The old Norelco many, many years
ago seemed to last forever too, but now not so much.

They can't even agree on very moderate (read: insufficient) measures
against climate change.

My Panasonic is ~20 years old and working fine - at least it was an hour
ago!

Many Panasonic products are fine but they never seem to get it right with
others. My CORDLESS phones all fall apart after 6 month...many failures with their microwave ovens. Junk begets junk without proper quality controls.
