Interesting... but other than boats what am I looking at? Is this a
competition of some sort or a celebration?

Thank you, Ed! So, there's a regatta with tall ships. Tall ships with
sails. That explains it.

The Portuguese is really cool. Looks like the Spanish one though unless
it sailed out of Portugal

Wow! I had to go back and look at which country it
was representing. All I saw at first was the boat and
beautiful sails. What I know about boats could fill a
thimble.

But what happened to this poor boat? It looks like it could
stand a major refurbishing.

I'd really rather not see the "hot girls" advertisements at the end of
that link. I thought postimage.org was better than that.

The design of the old galeons look cool. So do the old clipper ships.
Still, this is a regatta. Pretty much sails only, I presume?

I don't see any hot girls, just the ship. Maybe they only show the hot
girls to people with a certain browsing history?

I went and looked at the pictures again and I see no 'hot girls'
in either picture.

The first time I recall Tall Ships is 1976 when we lived in
Philadelphia. It was pretty much celebrating the bicentennial, but
became very popular. Now they travel around every summer. Some offer
week long voyages.

It is a replica of a 17th century galleon. It was built in 2009 and
probably made to look old. See some detail here. Cabins look nice

The Tall Ships frequently gather here, every couple of years or so,
but this year especially Canada 150.

Correct but we were fortunate to get the lot The Portuguese one
was very popular, pirates and all that, actually only built in the
late 90s. Many are replica's now, but that's still a good thing.

Lol, right again, I just look and admire. That one did have a certain
something, you could easily imagine it sneaking up on the high seas
and firing a canon across your bow.

Didn't see her and we saw all but a couple. It was 30°C and a bit
brutal sitting in direct sun.

I love the looks of those old ships, so thank you, I didn't at first
understand your post.

I cannot imagine crossing the seas in a vessel like those.

These ships built with the technology of the 18th century are wonderful to behold. We have an iron-hulled oil tanker built about 100 years later. It's moored in Honolulu harbor at the moment. It was used as a maritime museum but now it's future is uncertain. My guess is that the Falls of Clyde will end up in Scotland; where it was built. Either that or it'll be scuttled somewhere off of Oahu. Maybe it will be sold to the Chinese as scrap. That would be a shame. If I was Mark Zuckerberg, I'd buy it and turn it into an awesome party boat!

I wouldn't have minded a few years ago but they didn't offer the
opportunity then. My cousin came here two years ago sailing in on the
Lord Nelson, he loved every minute of it.

It does make you wonder how many on the 'Mayflower' and such boats

They would have been far too busy though, just existing. When we
first came here I met a man at a cocktail party who related how his
great-grandparents came here in late summer, bought a couple of horses
and an open cart and were heading for Prince Edward Island. They were
advised not to go, too late and they would likely get caught in the
woods by winter and snow.

They went with just a couple of sacks of spuds, her piano, two
children and she was heavily pregnant. Somewhere in the woods winter
caught them and one day when he went hunting for deer, he never came
back. She survived, had the baby and ultimately made it back to
Halifax.

They sure made them very tough in those days!

I see the "hot girls" ads on page too.
Assuming that people are posting the .jpg link, seems that
postimage is redirecting to a whole page and showing all the
advertisements - just like tinypic does.

Jebus is the one that told us all about alt pic hosting pages.
He mentioned postimage.org
But he also included hostpic.org

That's the better one imo.

Click on this and see if it's better or not.
It works well on my old computer but I'll have to
look at it on my newer laptop to see if it also
redirects to an html page or just shows the plain pic.

Jackie was my home finance person.
She hid my cash behind the sofa. Safe enough.

OK, I just clicked on that on the new computer. No web page with ads, no
crap, just the pic downloaded immediately.

Might I suggest everyone switch to hostpic.org for downloading pics?
It works for me.

Ooh that one with the bottle looks posh) We can buy Spam in the
supermarkets here with various different flavours. He doesn't fancy any of
them.

We have a box of plain Spam in our store but he doesn't ask for it often

A bonsai whole apple pie would be very popular with the dieting
crowd. Eat an entire pie for dessert and still lose weight!
