Ever since I live in Australia, I have to change gears with my left
hand. It's one step away from writing with my left hand. Crazy
Australians!

I heard something interesting on the radio this morning. Some years back,
teachers and parents tried to break kids of being left handed, forcing them
to write with their right hand. My dad was one of these kids but he wound up
being able to write and do other things just as well with either hand.
Anyway...

They began to notice that a lot of these kids who were naturally left
handed, had a stutter. So they did an experiment and had them go back to
using their left hand for writing. And all of a sudden, the stutter was
gone!

My oldest brother was born left-handed but he was forced to learn to
write with his right hand. He never had a stuttering problem, though.

I am left-handed and when my mother took me to register for the first
grade she told the teacher she did not want me discouraged from
writing with my left hand. The teacher said they no longer tried to
force a child to be right-handed.

I have decent penmanship now but in grade school it took me a couple of
years to be able to read my own writing.

Penmanship, now that's a wordt that will die out with the
baby-boomers.

My wife is a lefty and she plays golf but lefty clubs are always full
price and often not available in all styles... being a lefty golfer is
in many ways a PIA.

If your father was a lefty and wrote with fountain pens (the only way
to exhibit fine penmanship) he'd have problems because it's very
difficult to find quality fountain pens set up for lefties. No one
who writes with ballpoints exhibits ine penmanship.

I am right handed and my penmanship was always bad. My mother's writing
was beautiful, but my father's was very difficult to read. I have always
been somewhat ambidextrous. I always swung a baseball bat or and axe
left or right handed. I can swing a gulf club left or right. I play
paddle sports right handed. I paddle a canoe left handed. Over the last
decade or so I have been able to print left handed. My left handed
printing is actually neater than right handed, but much slower.

I taught a guy to play the guitar back in the 70's. We went down to Metronome music in downtown Honolulu to pick a guitar. I did my best to convince him to play the correct way but for some reason, he wanted to play the wrong way. In the end, he picked up a beautiful guitar and I strung it up for him to play lefty. Beats me why he insisted on playing like this. It's tough being a lefty guitar player in a world of guitars.

Beats me if young folks will know much about these players. My guess is that Kurt Cobain would be more familiar to today's generation. Jimi's dad wanted his son to play the correct way but that never took hold, and the rest is history.

As a practical matter, playing lefty means you can't pick up a guitar and start playing - like everybody else can. Buying a new lefty guitar can be more expensive OTOH, selling a used lefty can be somewhat harder to do. Your pool of buyers is greatly reduced. The one advantage that I can think of is that a used lefty guitar will be discounted some.

Take it from me, just learn to play the correct way.

For a leftie playing with their left hand IS the correct way.

I already know that. Kurt Cobain died over 20 years ago but you try coming up with a famous left-handed guitar player that kids idolize.

Do you have any rationale for this? Come to think of it, it doesn't matter anyway.

I was afraid you were going to say that. I don't really care what hand people use to do things. I think that gals the write left handed are cute. OTOH, if I'm going to teach someone to play the guitar, I'm going to teach him to play correctly. I mean, I'm not going to teach him to play with his toes or upside down.

There's a whole list of them:

what dsi1 knows about anything would fit on the head of a very small pin.

One time, one of my email friends had "an event." He pooped out
an extra long "bowlwinder" and sent a pic of his poopy in the
toilet. disturbing. I did photoshop it though and added an evil
looking demon head to one end of it. I saved my change. Care to
see it? Be careful what you ask for.

Be patient, in a year or two America will re-invent writing
copperplate with a goose quill and ink. Focussed penmanship will be
recognised as the leading educational therapy for ADHD, dyslexia and
childhood obesity.

(After a few hours of handwriting practice, during which they also
learned to spell, focus, and concentrate, those overfed brats will be
raring to chase round outside burning off calories).

Sure, why not? He plays the guitar left-handed and he is famous. He's literally a famous left-handed guitar player.

The cats find comfort in that bowl. It cradles/caresses them and it keeps them cool. It's the finest cat bed ever.

I often do work on a lot of different computers. I can use a mouse with
either hand and with either button setup. At home I have a desktop and
laptop. Desktop is left hand mouse, the laptop is right hand. Just
takes a little time to get used to it.

What a silly thread... does it really matter which hand one uses to
masturbate?

All you've shown is that you know how to Google "left handed guitarists." Those guys don't count anyway. How embarrassing!

It's not but 15% or something like that from the web, but many of us
don't have a strong 'handedness'. I remember distinctly, my teacher
noting that I picked up my pencil with a hand, based on how she pointed
it.

Some are more strongly ambidextrious than others. My teacher said it
would be easier if I went mostly right handed since it didnt seem to
matter to me.

In my college years, I broke my right wrist and still had to take
notes. It was suprising to me that I was as fast left handed with that
though as I was not used to writing 'lefty'.

I know what you mean about what one uses for one hand for that doesnt
seem to 'fit'. I'm like that too. The only awkward one is if
distracted, I try to shake hands, left handed.
