I don't have a utensil basket on mine. It has a shallow rack at the top,
with .. small (prongs?) to divide each item.

Ah, then you have the three rack model with the shallow rack at the
top. That feature had not come out when we bought ours.

Wayne Boatwright

Yes it has three racks. My old one had utensil baskets.

As does mine, but it is older than yours. I only sawa the three
rack moel within the last year or so. How would you compare the
third rack for loading compared to having a basket?

Wayne Boatwright
====

Well as you know, we only got ours earlier this year but I do like the rack.

My husband chose this one though

Yes, I Knew that, buat I believe all Bosch machines now have the
third rack as opposed to a basket.

Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau are all owned by BSH. All are
considered high-end appliances.

Wayne Boatwright

==

OK. I wouldn't know!

I do know this one was expensive. I'll check.

Yes. it was £509.00. It is very small compared with my previous one.

I wouldn't have paid that much but it does a jolly good job, and I wouldn't
swap it now

You may not be missing anything. When we bought our KA, we got the
model with a top rack where you can lay out things. The rack below it
would not accommodate taller glasses then. I took the rack out and
never put it back in. IMO, it was useless for many of us.

I was looking at the instruction manual. It says I can take out the two
upper racks if I wanted to put something big or tall in there.

If I took out the top one though, I would have nowhere to lay the cutlery.

All of those brands are expensive. We initially were going to buy a
Gaggenau. However, we had an intallaton probkem. The space for the
dishwasher had a norizontal pipe running the entire width of the
space about three inches from the floor. The deep tub diswhashers
usually are much lower and the back end of the unit would not fit
over the pipe. Afte some research I dicovered that the Bosch had a
clearance at the back of about four inchees which would clear the
pipe. The pipe could not be moved, so we bought the Bosch. Now I
wouldn't trade the Bosch for anything else. I also like the Bosch
because it doesn't have a heating element in the bottom of the tub,
and depends on its high tempeature and evaorative technizue for
drying. Your David made a good choice. It doesn't pay to skimp on
dishwashers. :-)

When I discussed the problem with a Bosch factory rep, he told me that
their DWs were made to have a 10 year lifespan, I suppose in normal,
family, everyday use.
Miele apparently make theirs to have a 20 year life.
Gaggenau make some fancy ovens that I have coveted.

The motor, pump, valves, and hoses are on the underside of the machine.
They found ways to make that stuff smaller so the inside tub cam be made
deeper to hold more and taller things.

Two upper racks? That's fantastic - we don't have two upper racks over here.

What's the advantage of having a smaller dishwasher? Well, except that you might be able to install it in places that you couldn't with a regular sized one.

I didn't choose it but it does fit where he put it and it is plenty big
enough. It just seems deeper rather than wider!

There are three racks, one for cutlery, the next one down for cups etc and
the bottom one for big plates/dishes and pans etc.

I get a big pan on the bottom along with the plates and I can get a smaller
pan in with the cups

I used to have a regular sized one, but I don't remember getting more in
that one than this one

What you have now. If you compared it to budget priced dishwashers,
or almost any older dishwasher, you would notice that the bottom of
the tub is higher from the floor.

Oh! Right, thank you! Is that why I can have 3 racks?

Bosch does make a washer that's nearly 6" less in width than a standard 24" wide washer. That's interesting. I like that idea. I had to design my kitchen around the dishwasher. That's crazy but true.
