![]() I ordered a coffee grinder yesterday (8/31) at about 2 P.M. It will be delivered today. I ordered one of those metal lemon/lime squeezers about an hour after I ordered the coffee grinder. It will be here tomorrow. The reason I didn't order anything until after 2 was because my husband thought we should go out and see if I could get what I wanted locally. Out of stock at one place and twice as costly at another. Bah! Stay at home and shop and let the stuff come to you. Janet US |

Amazon has most everything at a good price and in stock. Malls are closing all over these days. I buy from the seller that offers me the best deal for me. Lemons at the Stop & Shop are 79 cents. At WaMart they are 35 cents. Same size, same color. What kind of coffee grinder did you get? |

I stopped fighting it. I order 90% of my non-food items online these days. It just isn't worth the effort to schlep around going from store to store looking for exactly what I want or trying to get a better price. |

It just isn't >worth the effort to schlep around going from store to store looking >for exactly what I want or trying to get a better price. The days are long gone when I could find better deals elsewhere than on line... and Amazon is the best, there's rarely an item they don't carry, and Prime is very well worth the price, driving from store to store costs far more, is inconvenient, and driving is always a risk. Rarely does a day pass I don't get something delivered from some etailer, yesterday a 13' long fruit picker arrived from Amazon, now I can pick the plums from the top third of my trees without a ladder. Also Amazon allows you to link one prime account with all family members at the same delivery address, different email, different credit cards, matters not. I haven't been to a Maul for some thirty years.... 9 times out of 10 they are out of stock, don't have your size/color. I even bought the Rustoleum from Amazon, cost a dollar less per can than Lowes. |

Everything is going to change. It's shaping up to be a big war. Amazon vs. Google/Walmart. Now that's going to be something! Well, unless nuclear armageddon befalls us - then it's not going to matter much anyway. |

And it's cheaper for me to get some shelf stable things that way, plus I often get Swagbucks for shopping and I redeem them for Amazon gift cards. I have used Prime Now for groceries a few times. Mostly when I didn't feel up to going out. Only problem was when they didn't deliver the almond milk and that was rather needed for the smoothie that Angela wanted. She got all the rest of the ingredients. Just not that. |

It's not as if the things actually reams out the pulp and juice. It us shaped to hold the halved fruit which is them squeezed. I usually do it with the fruit pointing up, give it a good squeeze, open it up and invert the fruit and give it a second squeeze. The second squeeze gets quite a bit more juice. |

Yup...same here...this past winter I'd even order hooch delivered to my door via Amazon Prime Now...at first I thought it was "decadent", but it was storming outside, and their price was fairly competitive. Sometimes I'll order fresh items delivered, very handy in a pinch. I order most pantry staples online, and as someone else mentioned I've also ordered Rustoleum for a small painting job. I'm usually too shot from work to have the energy to run around shopping. And I am car - less here in the city, so Amazon Prime is a great help...essential, in fact. I recently visited a local Barnes & Noble to check out some stuff, I found the whole retail experience extremely annoying, like ten chummy clerks chirping at me every few minutes, "Can I help you...are you finding what you want?". I know they are well - intentioned, but I don't care for a lot of useless human interaction, makes me weary. -- Best Greg |

I'm trying this approach since I can no longer do the back and forth twisting to ream a lemon because of rotator cuff problems. And, actually, around here a lemon is most definitely not the same size as a lime. Limes are tiny round things most of the year. We don't live in lime country Janet US |

The BJs lemons here are sold by weight, a 2 1/2 pound bag is $2.79, how many depends on lemon size but usually 7-9. I've never been disappointed in quality but occasionally I'll get a bag with very pitty lemons. BJs here is also about 20 miles each way but my wife is in that area a couple times a month so she does the BJs shopping, I think I've only been to BJs twice. The lemons in town cost 2/99¢ but are not as good as BJs. |

But nothing that will make you into a cripple. :-) Don't take offense but be sure and place the fruit with the cut side down into the bowl portion of the juicer. When you look at it most people's first inclination is to place the fruit into it like you would place a cut piece of citrus in a bowl to be eaten. Once the lemon or lime is in the juicer and you squeeze the fruit it will just about turn wrong side out. |

I do like the reamer! I have a reamer and it works well but evidently not for someone with physical issues. A squeezer could also be a problem with some people. A juicer would do it but pain in the ass to clean afterwards. I had one once and I used it once. Then I cleaned it up and gave it away. ![]() Was it Koko that suggested freezing citrus first? Makes good sense as the freezing would break down cell walls and give you more juice. I'm wondering if it would be better to zest first or freeze first? Also (thinking back to other discussions), around here lemons and limes are all about the same size. |

I got my favorite juicer for free, my right hand. >Was it Koko that suggested freezing citrus first? Makes good >sense as the freezing would break down cell walls and give you >more juice. I'm wondering if it would be better to zest first or >freeze first? If you freeze lemons then you may as well use bottled lemon juice... freezing lemons causes their juice to pick up the bitterness of the pith. >Also (thinking back to other discussions), around here lemons and >limes are all about the same size. In my experience, generally, limes are noticeably smaller and rounder, about golf ball size... lime rinds are also thinner. Even though limes are smaller they will give more juice than lemons because lemons have a about three times thicker rind. We buy both, my wife prefers limes, I prefer lemons. Keep in mind that there are different types of limes as there are different types of lemons so you can't always compare lemons to limes. |

It's funny you say that, we were in Whole Foods yesterday and were a bit startled by random employees asking us if we needed help with anything or otherwise greeting us. Then, at checkout, did we find everything? I really don't need people calling out to me from 20 feet away like I look lost. There were always people around before who could go in the back to find me some escarole/whatever. nancy |

That was how many years ago... all citrus used to be a lot less expensive even five years ago... in the last few years lemon trees have been suffering a disease so the supply is lower, therefore prices are higher. Plant disease is the primary reason for high priced produce of all kinds. Plant diseases are more insidious than human diseases... you can't ask a lemon tree where does it hurt... by the time plant diseases are noticeable they're already of epic dimension, and very often there is no cure. Just like animals go extinct so do plants. |

Years ago, I walked into a clothing store in the mall. Person constantly came back to me asking if I needed any help. If I paused to look at something specific, he was right there trying to convince me to buy it. I walked out of that store for that very reason. If they had left me alone, I probably would have spent some money there. |

Now I'm reminded of a guy at a furniture store who Really wanted to help us find something. Okay, what he really wanted was a commission but he was relentless. Couldn't run out of there fast enough. nancy |

I used to shop for produce at the Hispanic markets, there produce was always less expensive, especially citrus. The "Compare" market was in predominantly Hispanic areas... very ethnic stores that catered to many ethnicities, besides foods from many Central American and South American countries they also catered to Asian/Indian cooking. Those types of stores are what I miss here. They have opened a lot of stores in South Carolina: http://www.comparesupermarkets.com/store-locator I don't think a Compare market would make it here, the people I've met are not into ethnic foods, they are very happy with TIAD Fast Food. |
