Let's not condemn the entire state of Hawaii just over one
selfish citizen.

I seemed to remember that Carol called him "Brucie" to start
with, so she would have started that and shouldn't have
gotten miffed about "cshenkie."

Just to verify, I looked back in messages and discovered that
*I* was the one to call him "Brucie." LOL! Oh Man!
I guess I started that one.

It would probably make more sense to give your opinion on the matter instead of giving your opinion on the opinion of others. Opinions on opinions are kinda lame. Well, that's my opinion anyway. OTOH, I respect your right to be kinda lame.

I can't bear to use Thunderbird these days - mostly for that reason. I like to read posts in the preview window but that requires constant scrolling. It would make my life so much easier if people trimed their posts or top posted.

Well that ain't going to happen nor do I expect other posters to solve my problems for me. These days, I use Google Groups. This takes care of the problem with the long wait for Thunderbird to open up too. GG is also laid out in a logical, easy to read fashion. I can open GG on most any web browser/computer that happens to be handy. This is a huge advantage and anyway, Thunderbird or any other "real newsreader" won't work on a Chromebook.

They are valuable in that they give insight into how other folks see things. Mostly, people on this group and in internet forums, in general, use the opinions of others to leverage their own opinions.

Lol.

I set mine up for 3 vertical panes - works real nice that way.

Funny you mention that, mine seems slow to open to, unusually so.

My Thunderbird is setup for with the T-bird accounts on the left side.
There is a window for the NG topics arranged chronologically to the
right, on top. The third window is a preview window for reading the
message highlighted in the topic window. If you have any suggestions for
alternate setups, I'm interested.

That's always been a problem with T-bird. After a while, the program
gets laggy because of all the baggage you pick up. You could backup your
profile and then start a new, clean, one but that's a frustrating
technique.

I'm guessing that if would. You have to have a Chromebook that can run
Android apps. I'll have to check that out.

I agree about the trimming, but I don't blame Thunderbird for that. I
use Thunderbird and I make an effort to trim the post, leaving just
enough quoted text to give the reply some context. There is no reason to
include 100 lines or more of text going back through 10 previous posts.
It is even more annoying when they include all that crab and then have
only a one line comment at the end. People are in the bozo bin for doing
that too often.

Apparently, the biggest offender -dsi1- is not in your bozo bin, so
that last statement is moot.

If you can get the poster here to trim all their posts down to the
message they're responding too, I'd go along with that. OTOH, it's
fairly obvious that people have trouble trimming posts because there's a
lot of misattributing of posts. So that may not work out either. Oh well.

He is not the worst offender. I just went back and looked at the last
few posts from you and from him, and you are no better.

Sure, this how I have mine set up:

__________________________________________________ __
|All Folders |Sbjct. From Date |Message |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
| | | |
|_______________|_______________________|_________ __|

View -> Layout ->
^Vertical View
^Folder pane
^Message Pane

Obviously I make the actual width real thin for the All Folders pane,
then slightly larger for Subject/From/Date pane, and widest yet for the
Message pane.

I used to run Agent this way and it is an efficient way to seee
everything at one glance without hopping up and down panes.

Yes, you have to be careful or you end up misattributing. ">" marks

So if others are too lazy or ignorant to trim it is ok for you to?

The one I mentioned yesterday has 25 previous posts.

I understand how the quotes are nested and won't mess up the attributions. Yoose guys either don't or are careless. My recommendation is that people trim posts if they know how to do it. Otherwise, leave it alone. This makes sense, no?

If you feel the need to trim posts and know how to do it, feel free to act. Just don't whine about having to do it. That's no way for an adult to act.

No, it was after it on my end of using the term

The intent, as you well know, just like the people calling Julie those
ridiculous takes on her last name, says a lot more about them than it ever
did about her.

Well, Brucie doesn't offend me at all. Nor was cshenkie meant to be
offensive.

Well, you know best because you're over there. But, wouldn't Emmentaler
refer specifically to a cheese made in the valley of Emmen,
Switzerland. I only thought of this because of Neanderthal. Then I
googled it, and the name does seem to hold to that.
Aren't worthless thoughts great! I certainly have a lot of them.

Not necessarily.
I do in this case because my late mother in law loved the real thing, but
rarely the German version - and we were the ones to get the former for her
when it was on sale.

One would think so, indeed; but look here for "Allgäuer Emmentaler" (the
German Version): http://germanfoodguide.com/chdetail....eese_number=18

> Aren't worthless thoughts great! I certainly have a lot of them.

<G> Even the term "Wiener Schnitzel" is protected (nitpicking: it's of
Milanese origin): veal only. The varieties with pork, turkey etc. have
to be called "Schnitzel Wiener Art" on a menu.
If somebody would care to sue all the places where it's labeled wrong,...

Bye, Sanne.

When we post something, how do we know what you do or don't know? I pretty
much only know what is here or other places where I've lived, unless someone
tells me otherwise.

Yes, of course. I just asked a question about it or commented or
something. And then cshenk went weird. That's all.
