Tha's true Ed, but they are not the people appealing to our governments for aid. Those pleas are coming from the government, the same government that allows a system of banking that protects their depositors from paying taxes on their wealth, but who then expect the taxpayers in our country to pay for their recovery instead of imposing their own taxes. |

They upgraded our zone to mandatory evacuation by tonight, so now there's nothing left to do but wait and pray. DH was able to catch a last minute early flight out of Tampa to Atlanta, and found a hotel room a half hour outside of the city. Atlanta is sold out everywhere, and car traffic is backed up throughout all of Florida and up past Atlanta. He installed a camera inside the house, so we'll be able to see if the hurricane shutters over the wall of windows on the bay side hold up, assuming we don't lose power and utilities first. -- jinx the minx |

Precisely Ed - my daughters went down there last spring and enjoyed a lovely holiday but both said it was the same thing, you were having a great time holidaying and you knew things were hard for those attending on you. Back in the early 70s, T & C implored our then premier John Buchanan to see if the island could be declared part of NS, they were turned down so good for them that they made something bring them money. |

Much of it has also diverted up along Richmond/Hampton roads for traffic. Sensible since they are tracking the hurricane westwards. Good luck there. -- |

We were in direct line of the eye when it hit Naples (2 hours south of us), but then it changed course and headed more north and over land, which saved us. If it had continued up the coast past Ft. Myers as projected, it would have been immeasurably bad for us. We know from our camera feed that we lost power about 8:30pm last night, so it was an arduous waiting game through the night and into this morning wondering if the 8-10 ft storm surge tsunami that was expected to hit around 4am happened. Luckily it didn't, or we would have lost the house without a doubt. Our neighbors with a key to the house said the roof is intact and no damage to the house. We lost palm trees and bushes as well as our dock and boat lift, but that's wonderful news considering that as the hurricane got closer and closer, our picture looked bleaker and bleaker. We still don't have power, but hopefully they'll get that repaired soon. I'm happy to have an excuse to clear out everyone else's food taking up space in my freezer, if you know what I mean. Not that I don't appreciate the "kind" gesture from our friends and family that stay there when we are not... -- jinx the minx |

Probably cut while they do repairs elsewhere for safety. Daughter went to her place. No power but no flooding so they will be ok too. |

Would you by any chance know how it went for Sanibel Island, we spent many happy weeks in a condo there several years ago, very beautiful. |

I think the big warning her is they can shift and Florida is a long thin state so the only evacuation is 'North'. My the time they called it for you, it was probably too late to make it out. I assume you have a generator. Grin, yeah I know on the food. Folks with no sense tried to show up here to 'store their food in my chest freezer'. I think a lot of people in the state evacuated before they were "asked" to, or used it as an opportunity to get out of town, which clogged the highways. We don't have a generator there because it isn't our full time home. I'm definitely putting one on the shopping list, however, just in case storms like this happen when we or family are staying there. -- jinx the minx |

Probably cut while they do repairs elsewhere for safety. Daughter went to her place. No power but no flooding so they will be ok too. == Excellent ![]() -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk |

We've only owned the house for 3 years, so I am sure there will be plenty more to come in the future. Well just hold our breath that Jose doesn't come our way, and there won't be any more for the rest of this hurricane season. -- jinx the minx |

September is the main month for hurricanes and today is only Sept.12. There will be more. Even into October. One year a hurricane came close here on Halloween day, end of October. That continued north to combine with another storm and became the "Perfect Storm" that they made the movie about. Atlantic hurricane season is only half over or even less. |
