Default Hurricane Irma: A food plan ahead idea

Quiche! I have in mind a broccoli quiche. I have frozen broccoli
florets. I have eggs. I have several kinds of cheeses. I have milk
and cream and butter. And a store-bought (heh) deep dish frozen pie crust.

I'm thinking assemble and bake it tomorrow night. Chill in the fridge.
Even if the power goes out, a quiche will last in the fridge a while.
One way to use and extend some perishable items if the power goes out.
If it doesn't, I'll still enjoy eating the quiche.

Smart thinking. You don't have to have it hot to eat either.

Waaaay cool!

Jes make sure you get the moisture/liquid outta the veggies! No
kidding! The secret to a killer quiche's is, "make sure the veggies
are not too wet! Sweat 'em"

I'll heat the frozen broccoli in a steamer basket over simmering water
to get rid of the ice crystals (and soften slightly) then and drain it
well. I use that collapsible steamer to squeeze the moisture out of a
block of frozen spinach when I make spinach quiche. It works quite well
for that. Some people squeeze the moisture out of it with a clean
kitchen towel... but then you have a dirty towel to wash. The
collapsible steamer works well for this and you can leave it sitting in
the sink to continue draining, just give it an occasional squeeze again.

Thanks! I don't mind if quiche is not piping hot. Lord knows I've been
to plenty of parties where those little appetizer mini-quiches were at
room temp.
