Does anyone know what happened to this brand? I used to buy the coffee cakes
years ago. I never liked them but everyone else seemed to. People were known
to eat a whole box all by themselves. But now? I rarely see the brand. Once
in a while I see donuts. They seem expensive. About $4 for 6. No way.
They're not even fresh!!

Entenmann's was sold about 2-3 years ago... products are awful now.
I used to live less than 1/2 mile from their plant... their company
store had great values, every item $1.

Easily available here, and JUST as good as they always were.

ABOUT the claim of them being sold recently..

The pharmaceutical company Warner-Lambert purchased Entenmann's in
1978, and then sold it to General Foods in 1982. General Foods merged
with Kraft in 1990. Kraft sold its bakery business to CPC
International (later Bestfoods). Bestfoods was purchased by Unilever
in 2000, which sold its baking division to George Weston, a Canadian
baked goods and supermarket business, the next year. Weston sold its
United States interests including Entemann's in 2008 to Mexican
conglomerate Grupo Bimbo.[3] Other Bimbo Bakeries USA holdings include
companies such as Thomas', Brownberry, Boboli, Arnold, Oroweat,
Freihofer’s, and Stroehmann.[5]

On March 27, 2014, it was reported that Entenmann's was ceasing baking
operations at the Bay Shore, New York location in July 2014. Other
operations, such as sales, the store and distribution are to continue.

Thomas', Entenmann's and Bimbo all have outlets in this part of NJ.

Entenmann's started going downhill in the late 70s. They were wondrous
before then, but once there was a corporate sell off, that was it.
From Wiki:

"The pharmaceutical company Warner-Lambert purchased Entenmann's in
1978, and then sold it to General Foods in 1982. General Foods merged

We get the day-old at our Sara Lee outlet. Entemann's, Sara Lee, Thomas'
English Muffins, and a host of other famous names are owned by Grupo
Bimbo, out of Mexico City. I'd guess their market share is about a third
of the US market, at minimum.

I checked my zip code (expanded the search to 20 miles). According to
the Store Locator I can get the Crumb Coffee Cake at Bi-Lo. That's way
the heck over by Parris Island (Marine Corps Recruiting Station). The
only place I can buy the Cheese Filled Crumb Coffee Cake is at Piggly
Wiggly.

However, if I want the Cinnamon Swirl Buns, they have them at Publix.
Ditto the All Butter Loaf Cake and Raspberry Danish.

Walmart is also listed for some of the items. But they either don't
deliver to the "new" Walmart on Lady's Island yet or they have failed to
update the Store Locator web search to include deliveries there.

Regardless, I won't be looking for Entenmann's products. It was fun to
look around, though!

You've not missed much.

Many years ago Entemanns was decent but I'd no longer bother with the
soggy strudels.

I think I know why you don't like their donuts. Here are the
ingredients for Entenmann Rich Frosted Donuts:

"Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Shortening (Soybean, Cottonseed),
Sugar, Unbleached Enriched Wheat Flour (Flour, Malted Barley Flour,
Reduced Iron, Niacin, Thiamin Mononitrate (B1), Riboflavin (B2), Folic
Acid), Water, Cocoa (Processed With Alkali), Nonfat Milk, Soy Flour,
Egg Yolks, Leavening (Baking Soda, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Sodium
Aluminum Phosphate), Natural & Artificial Flavors, High Fructose Corn
Syrup, Dextrose, Pregelatinized Wheat Starch, Corn Syrup, Salt, Soy
Lecithin, Sorbitan Monostearate, Polysorbate 60, Mono- And
Diglycerides, Potassium Sorbate (Preservative), Cellulose Gum, Guar
Gum, Tapioca Dextrin, Xanthan Gum, Karaya Gum, Beta Carotene (Color),
Caramel Color."

I wouldn't buy their strudels if I were you:

Wheat Flour, Water, Pineapple, Sugar, Palm Oil, Neufchatel Cheese
(Pasteurized Nonfat Milk and Milkfat, Cheese Culture, Salt, Carob Bean
Gum), High Fructose Corn Syrup, Milk, Eggs, Modified Cornstarch,
Soybean Oil, Salt, Lemon Puree, Milk Protein Concentrate, Natural &
Artificial Flavors, Lactic Acid, Mono- and Diglycerides, Preservatives
(Potassium Sorbate, Sorbic Acid, Sodium Propionate), Citric Acid,
Artificial Color, Soy Lecithin, Xanthan Gum, Vitamin A Palmitate,
Caramel Color, Soy Protein, Beta Carotene (Color).

But then again, maybe you can put them in the fuel tank of your car.
You might be driving faster than ever!

This is why I never read the ingredients in my favorite things. Your body has a lot more going on chemically than any dopey snack cake. The chemicals in your body has a profound effect on everything it does. It can cause you to grow or not grow, it has serious effects on your mood and outlook of life itself. The chemicals in snack cakes are nothing. Mostly your analysis in this matter is specious.

It's stupid to eat a snack cake if you're trying to lose some weight. The bad stuff in these things don't have science project names. It's pretty simple really - fats and sugars. OTOH, if you're starving to death, fats and sugars could save your life.

As far as chemical factories goes, the human body is producing thousands of complex compounds every second. We don't know the effect most of these compounds have on our bodies, and perhaps we never will.

If you look at the ingredient list, there's a lot more in there than
just fats and sugars.

If you were actually educated and degreed as a chemist and
specialized in food prep, you might realize the necessity for
certain chemicals in food. Don't be so paranoid. Eat what you
like, just not a whole lot of it.

Why are they necessary? For a couple of centuries cakes were made
without them. I made a cake on Sunday. Flour, sugar, milk, eggs,
butter, vanilla, baking powder, salt. No other chemicals and tastes
better than anything from a package.

Necessary usually translates to cheaper, longer lasting, more profitable.

Same with ice cream. Gums are cheaper than mild and fruit. The best
ice cream does not have them.
