I just looked at Walmart. They do sell a few in store. Not sure if refrigerated or not. Also cans of chunks. I think the chunks are more common now, but... Ick! |

Even the Walmart here doesn't carry >them. > >-sw Canned hams are more available here at holiday time; easter, x-mas, a lot of people stud them with cloves and coat with brown sugarto make virginiaed ham. The Tops Market in town carries Armour Gold Star canned hams all year, usually 3 pounders but at holiday times also 5 pounders... they are excellent quality, I think better than the premium sliced deli hams, better than Boars's Head and its ilk. I'd buy them more often but even the 3 pounder is a lot of ham as there is no waste... once the can is opened they don't have a long shelf life, perhaps one week in the fridge and they don't freeze well. They used to be more available but a lot of people started to prefer the bome-in hams as they think they are more classy for serving guests, however they definitely have TIAD. Canned hams can easily be gussied up for service, served hot or cold. http://sanweb.lib.msu.edu/DMC/sliker...mourandc47.pdf Hormel Black Label is a great canned ham too, US Navy served it: https://www.windowssearch-exp.com/im...am&FORM=RESTAB If your market doesn't sell canned ham ask the manager. |

![]() Expert vacuum-packing seems to have taken their place for the most part. Is canned bacon still around? It doesn't need to be refrigerated, and was a very Important staple when we would go camping or checking into a cabin for a week's fishing. It was really good. It came in a regular vertical can; the slices were layered inside in a coiled fashion around the sides of the can. N. |

It's no surprise you didn't like them: 65% fish (alaska pollock), 35% batter & breading (whole wheat flour, vegetable oil [soybean and/or canola], enriched wheat flour [flour, niacin, reduced iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], whole yellow corn meal, corn starch, water, tapioca starch, ranch seasoning [maltodextrin, salt, dehydrated onion, dehydrated garlic. disodium inosinate & disodium guanylate, natural flavor, modified food starch, buttermilk], salt yeast, vital wheat gluten, leavening [cream of tartar, sodium bicarbonate], malted barley flour). |
