He said those type meals were not typical at homes but a typical diner meal in that country. And the "toast" was bread fried in the bacon/sausage grease. I actually made one of those meals once. It was actually a very tasty combo but you wouldn't want to eat like that very often. Delicious but mostly unhealthy. |

In Scotland, she saw some stuff in a tray and asked the server if it was haggis. My guess is that the server was told not to mention or serve it to any Americans. This is probably a good, sound, policy but she said she'd try a little. The server probably thought that was a bad move on her part and reluctantly gave her a small sample. He probably was struck dumb when she came back and asked for a big heap on her dish. Ah, those Southern gals... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k07zCHODCkY |

I learned about the full English breakfast from my son after we arranged for a four day layover in London when he was returning from his stint in Uganda. He was enamoured of that meal and still does it for us for Sunday brunches..... bacon, sausage, eggs, bean, tomato and toast. I occasionally meet up with him at a breakfast place around the corner from him and we order enough between us to do the whole thing. |

We divvy then up before we start eating. |

He knew about it. I asked him what the ingredients were and he told me. And I tried it and loved it even though some of the ingredients sounded a bit strange - especially the beans. He did tell me that his family and friends really didn't eat breakfast that way. I had no reason to not believe him. Perhaps you grew up on the other side of the city in a nicer neighborhood? I have no argument with you on this. I've never been to Manchester. I just passed on what I was told from another Manchester person. |
