Anyone here like them? Not talking about the typical
'crazy person killing other people' movies

This is about the supernatural and just like a top Twilight Zone
movie.

Called, "Drag Me to Hell." And.... oh man! I watched this last
night and it left me stunned. Way better than the average movie
shown on SYFY. Not a cheap movie at all.

Anyway, if you are interested it's on again this afternoon on the
SYFY channel at 4pm Eastern. I'll probably watch this one again.
Do watch it all - don't disappear long during commercials. You
really want to see all of this and pay attention - especially
during the last 30 minutes and right up to the last minute. Make
sure you don't miss the very ending.

ob food: 2 chicken sandwiches today. Simple but good.

I am not a fan and don't usually even consider renting one or watching
on TV or Netflix, but I have seen some good ones. I think one of the
best I have seen was a Spanish one called Rec (as on VCR recording)
about a reporter working on a story about the city at night goes out on
a call with an EMS crew and there is a strange something in the building.

Me too, I set the DVR to see what it's about.

This is why God made DVR's. Record it, fast forward during the
commercials and enjoy the movie.

I do get that channel but don't tend to watch it.

I did watch 'The Mummy' on Turner Classic Movies last night. Boris
Karloff, 1932. That was fun. I have never watched the entire film
through before. Loved the sets, the costumes and the makeup. Even when
Karloff still looked like his face was embedded with cloth. Yet he
walked around and talked to scientists and archealogists. (Comical in
retrospect, but kinda scary, given the state of movies back then.)

They did a great job with makeup and special effects - the smoky pool of
water that showed the possessed Princess her past - magical costume
changes. LOL Actually a pretty fun movie given how early this talkie
was made.

And hey, it didn't gross me out with people getting cut up or obviously
slashed to pieces.

Ok. It is over. It was a good flick. I give it a 4 out of 10. The flies made it a 4, otherwise a 3. Worth watching once.

I like this movie. It turns the redneck horror genre completely on its head.

It's a wonderful movie about two lovable rednecks being tormented by a bunch of psycho college kids.

I prefer Cabin in the Woods, which came out around the same time. It's
a little weird, though.

Yep, that was also good with a surprise ending. Especially the
very last few minutes.

Another one I liked was "Secret Window" (2004) with Johnny Depp.

All 3 of these movies had cool surprise endings, imo.

Thank you for the imdb link, Cindy. I can't get youtubes so I had
no idea what he was talking about. Have never heard of that one
but it does sound like a nice twist with college kids being mean
to the hillybilly friends. Most movies are the other way around.

Seen it. I'm a fan of Bruce Campbell (and Sam Raimi).
They came from my old stomping grounds.

Only a 4? The part that made me rate it higher was just the last
2-3 minutes or so of the movie. I didn't see that ending coming
at all.

With Halloween coming up this is MANDATORY viewing:

Both hugely talented, Bruce Campbell is underrated by a wide measure as
one of the most skilled physical and subtextual comedians of his day.

Why Jim Carey gets plaudits for his over the top mugging for the camera
and Campbell is relegated only to the stigma of B movies is beyond me.

Campbell is so far advanced comedy wise as to be in another dimension.

As are his films.

One series you might find rather enjoyable, watched in sequence or not:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0098143/

Psychics find themselves plotted against by a former colleague, who
committed suicide after discovering animated, murderous puppets.

I am not usually into slash movies with hanging half-naked women being
ripped to pieces, stupid people doing stupid things etc. but I think the
original Halloween was a pretty scary movie.

Twas indeed, as that genre goes.

I remain a fan of the first "Blair Witch" film.

It certainly did spawn a whole new genre. My favorite horror movie would be this one. It's so brutal that I can't bear to see it a second time.

I know exactly what you mean.

Here's a bit of cinematic magic. I've never seen anything like it before or since. It's from Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Kairo."

I'd prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.
