Default Mussels?

What do mussels taste like? I know, a question with about as many answers as
people who answer. I've been thinking I'd like to try them. I love clams. Are
mussels similar in taste? Also, while I'm allergic to seafood, I can eat clams,
so I assume I can eat mussels. So, I don't want to buy mussels in a restaurant,
take one bite and trash the rest of them. Thanks.

The only mussels I've eaten are at Chinese restaurants. I like them
and the ones I had were mild in flavor.

They don't taste like clams or oysters. They don't taste much like anything. A good way to prepare them is to add a dollop of dynamite sauce on them and place them under a broiler. They're great like that.

The best part of mussels is that they're cheap and grow fast i.e., sustainable.

Mussels are similar but, using game meat vs. beef for a comparison,
somewhat "gamier" tasting - but not in a bad way at all.

They're also maybe a bit more rubbery in texture, depending on how you
prepare them.

NEVER eat them raw, however.

Depending on your allergy they may or may not be your thing - do other
shellfish bother you?

Yeah I get a definitive taste from them, but then we're way inland and
fresh ones may not always be that fresh.

They're not sweet like a clam, but not as earthy as an oyster -
something in between?

Sustainable? Are you a bleeding liberal or something? If it doesn't
harm the planet, it can't taste good. Sheesh, the things you guys
don't know.

You probably hardly ever had them then.

Without colouring and anti-coagulating agent? Yuck!
