Knopfler is a master as well. And that patented Strat quack is so unique. Enough so that the Tele is now built with a 5 position switch and 3 pickups: http://shop.fender.com/en-US/electri...147502301.html My one beef is the lack of a rosewood fretboard which warms the tone significantly. Most people just took that off when they got their Tele and then lost it. Those old Teles had a crude, primitive, look to the bridges because all that was supposed to be hidden. The pedal steel trick is easy on a Tele because of the location and shape of the volume pot knob. I used to do it with my Firebird. It's not easy because of the location and shape of the volume pot knob. That was quite a stretch. Nice lick! It's cornball yet cool. Those are great... ![]() |

He said that Bobby is the best guitar player on the island and can play any style. Other than that I have no idea what else he said cause I was trying to get that damn fan off. People shouldn't be talking to me when I'm trying to do stuff. It's getting hard for me to get on the ladder - my whole body is getting weak. That's shocking! The pickups were made by Gibson for their V2 guitar. There's not much to see because the coils were embedded in black epoxy. What I've read is that the pickup consists of two short single coils wired in parallel with reverse polarity. One coil is for the treble strings and the other is for the bass. This results in a pickup with low noise and low output. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IUKUvofI6k |

The S-1 single coil pickup is a neat pickup. The boomerang pickup is more like a Les Paul low-impedance pickup in that the black epoxy hides the inner coil configuration. The epoxy probably keeps the pickup very resistant to developing microphonics but more importantly, it keeps what's inside a mystery and adds to its mystique. OTOH, it wouldn't be difficult to find out how the coils are arranged and what kind of magnets are in there. All you need is some iron filings. I'll just add that to my list of projects. |

Pretty to look at, but man do they yellow with age. > Lol, OK then, no rush but I'll be intrigued with the findings, er filings... |

These things are like the holy grail of pickups: low noise, low impedance, high output, extended frequency range. Too bad most people don't like how they sound. I'm rather ambivalent about them myself. ![]() |

Boy, that Pignose amp sounds crappy. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4xDZ5PjG4E My favorite pickup is the P90. The Alumitone is probably the most revolutionary pickup design since electromagnetic pickups were invented but I'd rather have a pickup that was designed in the 40's. That's rather queer. ![]() |
