Default Cooking chicken in MW

My oven is broken and I want some breaded roasted/baked chicken thighs. Is
there a way to make something like that in my Kenmore Elite MW? It has a
convection setting but it's a PITA to use. There is a simpler Auto Roast
setting that uses the convection but the only poultry settings it has are
turkey breasts and whole chicken.

Suggestions? I also have an ancient little toaster oven. I wonder if it
would work for this? I've not used it for decades. Can't remember what it
was used for.

TIA

I love a good meal! That's why I don't cook.

I would try your toaster oven. I use mine daily. Yesterday was a meatloaf.
Doing chicken, I would drape tinfoil over it to prevent splashes on the glass door. As for timing, when it is done it is done.

I don't have a convection microwave. From what I gather the convection
setting does make things turn out almost as if they've been roasted.
You could probably get the similar results in the toaster oven but you'd
have to watch it carefully to make sure it didn't brown the outside too
fast and leave you with half cooked chicken thighs. Good luck.

Personally, I would check out the toaster oven, if you're going to
bread it, that won't work so well in a MW. If I mw'd it, I'd tend to
put it in covered pyrex dish with a little butter, pepper salt etc.
and MW at half power for 10 mins.

I would use the toaster oven, but my MW doesn't have convection so can't
speak to that.

Either can work. My first choice would be the toaster oven. Just don't
set the temp too high or the outside will burn before the inside get done.

In the microwave, use one of the chicken setting but keep an eye on it
so it does not get overdone. It will use a low power microwave yet use
real heat for better exture.

I wonder if she could do most of the cooking in m/w, then change to
toaster oven, to finish. Perhaps spatchcock the bird?

He does have a convection setting. On mine, I can use both convection and
MW at the same time. I haven't used it much but it is good.

It gets the speed of the MW and the heat of the convection.

I would microwave the chicken thighs until almost done, then
bread them and finish in your toaster oven. Or just do it all in
the toaster oven to begin with.

OR....go for the best chicken and fry them in a pan with oil. You
won't be sorry if you take that route.

I can't imagine that coming out well in the microwave. Can you pan fry in a

Microwaved chicken can be really tasty. Just no crisp skin but
the chicken meat can be cooked perfectly in a microwave. I
sometime get a last minute thought to have some chicken. It's
frozen so I do the microwave thing and it works well. Don't be
such a purist. If you want some crisp skin, just peel it off the
frozen chicken after the first 2.22 minutes of microwave thawing.

After sitting a bit, continuing microwaving the meat in small
steps and pan fry the skin on some oil. Babies here scorn
microwaved chicken but only those that have never tried it. It
works well.

Sometimes it seems like many here just want to show off some
nifty dinner. I like good home cooking and I'm not afraid to
write about a nice simple meal.

Not everyone here can be Steve posting every exotic meal and
ingredients imaginable several times a day. And very rarely a
repeat meal either. Something is very wrong with that, imo. Maybe
his food looks good but tastes like crap. Why wouldn't he repeat
the occasional meal if it was all that?

I would never repeat (or even have started) that creepy whole
octopus meal. Sorry but that's really messed up.

Sinilar working. Probably this manual is for a newer model. My manual
doesn't go into nearly that much detail.

The biggest problem with my oven is it takes a VERY long time to reach
the required temperature, and when it does even sitting next to it I can
barely hear it beep. Very annoying. Be nice if I could set the temp and
come back later to see if it's ready, like a regular oven, but this one
only has that elusive beep. No message and it switches out of convection
mode if I don't almost immediately start baking after it preheats.

I'll report back. Got a call from an appliance repair shop I messaged
over a week or so ago. Supposed to come today to fix my oven but I've had
that promise before from other businesses and they didn't come.

That's a pain, they do say to preheat the pan, but I'd microwave to
almost done (140F) and then finish in a fry pan with some hot oil.

That or the toaster oven.

Good luck!

I've been through this before on a Conv/MW.

My guess is that one of your elements is not working. Turn on the oven and make sure that both elements are on. If one is not glowing, replace it. This is assuming that both elements are on during the preheat cycle.

Hopefully, the company's name is not "Reliable Appliance Repair."

Problem is, finding one that has good on-line reviews. So many have
terrible reviews. This one had excellent reviews. (But if I now posted a
review... )

I'll have to find the elements. I know where they are in a regular oven
but in a microwave/convection oven ...

The ceiling of the cooking enclosure - in a wonderful location that is
nearly impossible to clean when that butter you were melting without a
lid on it went all Joe vs. the Volcano on you...
