There are a few color combos with a white interior. Looks gorgeous but
no way would I get it. Even with protective coatings it would have to
get too dirty too often.

Maybe if I ever get a Rolls Royce Dawn, blue with white interior. If
you can afford one you can probably afford to have it cleaned often.

I ordered my Mazda CX5 with black upholstery but it arrived with white
instead. They offered free protectant and an overcoat on the exterior if
I would accept it - and i did. And I'm glad I did! Exterior is red.

Not to dis your car or anything but a car with a white interior would make me think that Elvis is in the house. Now that's one guy that must have had a Caddy with a white interior. If it's good enough for Elvis, I guess I can live with one too.

My mom had a 1970 Barracuda, which was the same car as the Challenger. That door panel was unique in that it was a single sheet of cast ABS. What a hard, cold, unfriendly, interior that was. My brother and I had to sit in the back. That was not good. My dad did a fast stop once and my face got planted on the pebbled ABS panel on the back of the seat. That was like sandpaper to my face. I can still feel it after nearly 50 years.

You did OK. Dealers make bundle on the coatings. It is nice stuff for
the right price but they charge $500 and up for it. The cost is less
than $100. Come time to trade or sell it will still look good though.

It's prolly heresy in the classic car world to agree with you, but...

Except for the cool pistol grip wood shift knob, the interior was All
cheap CRAP!

As for seeing out of that tub - luck with that!

I prefer a clear 3M frontal wrap and a good regular polymer/wax annual
treatment.

But have a clay bar on hand for the tar, bugs and grit.

I keep saying I want one and my wife says if I managed to get in it I

The car would easily break traction on the rear wheels - too much weight on the front. It had a high beltline and you did sit low in the car. The power steering was over boosted and the small steering wheel was set so low that it rubbed on the driver's thighs. I have no idea why it was designed that way.

My 67 notchback Barracuda with the 273 V8 was a much more enjoyable ride. It had one of the cleanest design in automobile history. That clean design style was carried on in the 1970 models.

Iirc rear weight bia s% was in the mid to low 40s - you be right.

You know your rides, early Cudas were a better product, certainly cabin
wise.

The exterior styling while less "coke bottle" on the flanks is clean and
tasteful.

And red line tires are always kewl!

Don't forget the "57" Chevy red convertible with white tuck and roll
upholstery. Now, that was a car.

My 67 Barracuda had a vacuum gauge instead of a tach. I thought that was the neatest thing. I wish I had vacuum gauges in my cars. They teach the driver the relationship between power and efficiency modes of driving. You can use it to diagnose engine problems. Vacuum gauges tell you how the engine is breathing.

I was talking today with my son's cheap Chinese landlord. He has a wonderful 68 911. This guy is around 90 years old. My wife said he doesn't fit the car. I said that he probably did when he got it in 68.

You're right about that. All the one's I've seen are two-tone. White with blue or white with red material. I'm glad they stuck with those colors.

Me too, they've shown up again in more modern guise on some hybrids.

> I wish I had vacuum gauges in my cars. They teach the driver the relationship between power and efficiency modes of driving. You can use it to diagnose engine problems. Vacuum gauges tell you how the engine is breathing.

And if you're on an automatic tranny they're genius for suggestion
upshifting by lifting off the gas at the right vac. peak.

I kinda dig the color, it's not your typical sunflower yellow, more of a
deep butter hue.

That was a popular color for Porches. Bahama Yellow.

I have seen them at car shows with all white, but mostly as you say, two
tone. I think that car in the movie "Losin it" had all white, but can't say
for sure.

Here's a pic of what I consider to be the pre-70s most desirable 'Cuda:

Those colors, those scoops, but those tires oughta be red lines.

And these are still very reasonable by comparison to the '70-'72 Hemi Cudas.

I used to drive my boss's 74 440 Duster. It had big tires in the back and small tires in the front. Everything was going fine until I had to do a quick stop and the tires squealed beyond all reason and the back started sliding. Ha ha, I must have looked like a real rube behind the wheel.

These days, I wouldn't mind having one of these Fiat 124 Sport Coupe. I liked them so much, I had 3 of them back in the day.

The movie was pretty awful, but the car was great as far as I can recall.

Guards Red was the only Porsche color worth having! ;-)

I never owned more than one car at a time back in those days. That would be unthinkable. I wouldn't recommend that anybody own a Fiat unless they knew and understood them. I knew and understood them and they were wonderful cars. They were cars ahead of their time.

Beautiful cars, those Alfas. GM thought so highly of the 124 Sport Coupe that they bought a few and took them apart. Then they built their own version.. That didn't turn out so well.

It's not a bad thing to be able to fix your own car and frankly Fiats
were not that hard to work on.

Having to do so is another thing.

LOl, the Cosworth variant however was actually pretty nifty, in the
idiom of nasty 70s cars anyway:

Interesting comparison road test:

http://www.motortrend.com/cars/mercu...cury-capri-ii/

By mid-72 this technological gem was spinning out 170 hp at 7600 rpm
and 126 lb-ft at 4000 €” heady stuff in a 2300-pound car €” but
part-throttle driveability was poor and emissions werent clean enough.
By May 1973, output was down to 130 hp and 116 lb-ft, but Car and Driver
took a prototype to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds with a 16.2-second 85-mph
quarter mile, proclaiming, €œThe only four-passenger coupes faster than a
Cosworth Vega have a Detroit V-8 under the hood.€

Most of those late 60's cars are going to be easy to work on. The main trouble spot on the 124 was the timing belt for the twin cam engine. That was easier to replace than the timing chains on most other OHC engines of the era.

Was it a mandatory water pump swap too, as most are?

I am just totally a timing chain guy.

So much more reliable.

Never really heard of one being prone to breakage either...
