I HAVE purchased a bottle of Galliano, the liquor one usta add to Screwdrivers to make 'em Harvey Wallbangers. BUT!! ....the recipe for Galliano liqueur has been changed back to the original, which I take as 'adding back more anise spice', cuz now it's almost impossible to make a Wallbanger the way it usta taste, no doubt one of the reasons Wallbangers (the drink) have fallen out of popularity. Usta be, a bit o' Galliano made a tasty Wallbanger. Now, there is too much anise spice flavor in it and that particular liqueur is now overwhelming! I found one small bottle out of 8 liquor stores. Most places didn't even know what I was talking about. Oh, they'd heard of the restaurant chain, but not the drink. Be forewarned! ![]() nb |

I think the advertising value for the cold holiday season will suffice. For those who do canned goods, keep on, but a trip to Costco for some 25lb sacks of beans or rice will really feed a lot more. https://careandshare.org/ Lets all invite our friends to help fight hunger this holiday season. Flat boring ASPHALT shingled, like every Tom, Dick and Smarmy out there~! BORING~~ Not the standard three-tab, but the newer "architectural" shingles that look something like weathered cedar shingles. It's a funny thing. I almost never see my roof unless I explicitly look at it, so it hardly matters what it looks like. From the street, the tree canopy makes it all but invisible. Love those mature maples. The fact that the house is veneered with split fieldstone is much more important; I see that every day. Cindy Hamilton |

Old World Roofing is a small high end architectural restoration firm here in STL specializing in slate and clay tile roofs restored the RIGHT way. They take each tile off then repair the under roof, put waterproofing over it then replace the tiles, with some having top be replaced and yes there are places making all that old clay 1/2 pipe roofing tiles! It's gonna look and BE fantastic when restored! And Old World Roofing has a 20 year warranty on a hundred year roof! John Kuthe... |

Dear Alex, so petulant and yet strangely impotent, however will you change your cedar shavings when they're wet? |

I would hardly call $12,000/year a "modest retirement income". On the bright side, you could get food stamps to supplement that since that's considered below the poverty threshold. That outrageous roof repair is literally 10 years worth of your "income". -sw |

I can just imagine how his meeting with the roofing estimators (and the mason guys) went. He was probably bragging about all the mammon he just inherited, about how money was no object, and how he thinks they're the best outfit in town for his "project". They could tell the scatter-brained little man was not quite all there and priced the jobs accordingly. When I worked at the roofing company the owner would always jack up the price of roofing for friends and family. The standard markup for a new roof was about 30%. But for friends and family that markup went up to 50-60% "because they have to give me the job - they can't go anywhere else". And when it came time to put a new roof on the church where he was the pastor, that markup went up to 120%. A true man of the cloth. -sw |
