Okay...why would they do a crowdfunding for an autopsy, would not an autopsy be an "automatic" thing in this case...???
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/11/09...ed-cheese.html "New York City school shut down when toddler dies after eating grilled cheese A school in New York City on Wednesday shut down after a 3-year-old boy, severely allergic to dairy, died after eating a grilled cheese sandwich, reports said. Elijah Silvera died on Nov. 3 after he went into anaphylactic shock from eating a grilled cheese at the Seventh Avenue Center for Family Services in Harlem, The Daily News reported. He was rushed to the Harlem Hospital pediatric emergency room where he died. Silvera was served the sandwich despite them [the school] knowing and having documented that he has a severe allergy to dairy, according to a GoFundMe page. The New York City Health Department released a statement late Wednesday that the school will remain close as the investigation continues, Fox 8 reported. "There is nothing more important than the safety of our children and we are deeply saddened by this tragedy. We will get to the bottom of what happened here. In the meantime, were closing the Center for Family Services and continuing to aggressively investigate what happened and whether the facility could have done something differently to prevent this tragedy," the statement read. Silveras GoFundMe page has raised nearly $18,500 and will go towards an independent autopsy report..." |

A kid who's know to be fatally allergic to dairy, eats a grilled cheese sandwich and dies isn't very high up the list. They're going to spend the money on corpses where there's something to be learned from an autopsy. My brother-in-law died in his sleep at age 54 in Thibodaux, LA. They didn't do a full autopsy, just analyzed his blood and said, "Looks like a heart attack". The aftermarket autopsy might come in handy during the legal proceedings. I was not aware that a cheese allergy could be that severe. I've not heard of it before. Nuts sometimes, yes, but not cheese or dairy. -- |

There may have been one done by the hospital or local medical examiner but they may want an independent opinion so they can sue everyone involved. What is sad, good chance someone knew he was allergic to dairy so they made sure not to give a glass of milk with the grilled cheese. |

Just my opinion but a kid that young with a life threatening allergy should not be in daycare at all. Life threatening means that if another kid spilled some milk or even ate cheese then touched something the allergic kid might touch, the kid could die. Older kids should know enough to take precautions. A teen died in this area due to cross contamination at a school cafeteria. She too had a dairy allergy. School served some kind of fried potatoes. One with cheese, one without. They used the tongs from the cheese potatoes on the non-cheese. That's all it took. Again, my opinion but kids like this should bring lunch from home. Much safer. |

One reason why they are often no longer served on airplanes. Not only are the particles airborne but recirculated in the air. People with life threatening peanut allergies can't go near those peanut butter making machines that some stores have. Eggs are similar in that when they are cooked, they can sometimes release something into the air that can cause an allergic reaction to those with egg allergies. People can be allergic to any food but some are less common. Used to be a Latino waitress here with a life threatening cilantro allergy. She had to be super careful when dining out, to the point of not going to a restaurant that had any cilantro containing foods on the menu. |

It is sad if someone didnt connect cheese with dairy but that seems a little far fetched to me. Meantimes, it just seems odd that this is the first time time I've head of a dairy allergy to this level. Yes, they may be setting up for a big lawsuit, but then they may be right if there was careless treatment. For me though, if I had a child of an age to not be able to explain a diet severe thing and know the differences, I'd not have had them in public school until a lot older than 3yo. When they were old enough to understand it, then they'd go to school with a lunch. -- |

Oh wait, he's the son of a celebrity couple. No wonder I never heard about this incident. I don't pay attention to celebrities or their children. Too bad his parents didn't teach him ricotta is *cheese*. If you have food allergies (or any allergies) it behooves you to know exactly what you're allergic to. Jill |

Julie could help fill this list; she knows many deadly foods that should be banned. So many people get a tiny whiff of these poisons, then drop dead on the spot. These dangerous toxins don't belong in grocery stores any more than sarin nerve toxins. |
