A fair conclusion.

Since all things human tend to the arbitrary, why not go with the most
expressive scale that isn't over the top in very large numbers?

the intermountain west. ;-) That is a real area.
Wiki says:
Intermountain states
The intermountain states are generally considered to be Nevada, Utah,
Idaho south of the Salmon River, Arizona north of the Mogollon Rim,
and western Colorado and northwestern New Mexico west of the Rocky
Mountains.[4] The intermountain states are so named from having all or
portions between the Rockies, Sierras, and Cascades. The intermountain
states are included among states classified as the Mountain States.

No thanks! I was at the club picking up dinner a couple of weeks ago.
I overheard two men talking at the bar. I gathered one was from upstate
NY and the other somewhere in NJ. They were complaining about how hot
it gets here. (I also gathered they moved here in the last 6 months.)
The first thing I thought was, "At least you won't have to shovel/blow
snow, scatter salt or sand on the driveway, worry about driving in a mess."

The high today will be about 65F. But don't worry, folks... it will get
down to overnight freezing temps in my neck of the woods soon enough.
But I'd be very surprised to see snow.

That may or may not be the case, but you still feed them crap. If you
can't afford better food, it's better than nothing, but don't be too
proud of it.

I don't care what scale folks use, just as long as it uses divisions of 25 and 50 and starts at 200.

The weather in that basin can vary considerably. I came very close to
retiring in northern Carson City, NV.

If you have the math skills, you can ascertain whether 9/5 or 5/9 is
an approximation. Of course, the result will be an approximation when
the temperature to be converted is not a multiple of 5 or 9, respectively.

I avoided the math of converting by adopting SIM. I measure with the
metric side of a tape measure or ruler and I use the a Celsius side of
the thermometer.

I wasn't serious suggesting Rankine. However, I do wish we'd finish
converting to SI. People seem happy buying 2 liters of soda; why
not finish the job? We're the only first-world country that hasn't.

I know the term 'mid-south' just from passing by. I know you know
intermountain west, I just didn't want to give you a specific place

That's the sensible course of action to put SI into practice. However,
if one is uncertain as to whether the conversion factor is an approximation,
the solution is to derive the conversion equation from first principles.

LOL, I was wondering!

We dropped last night for a bit to 28F according to the channels but we
went to sleep when it was 36F.

LOL, from the 106.9 radio chanel we hit 26F in the middle of the night
then warmed as the sun came up when you went out. It's not a record
breaker but a shock chill we get here due to rapid weather change.

Anyways, fireplace in full form. Heat kicking in only at 38F and below.

It's almost tropical over here too. Last night it was a bone chillin' 72°F and today it's expected to reach a blisterin' 81°F.

The feral cats over here have it pretty good. Every time I drive into the parking lot they're just lounging around. If you ask me, they should be doing what wild cats are supposed to be doing - huntin' and killin'. These kats won't have anything to do with that kind of stuff. They lack ambition, drive, and initiative.

Our cats' main ambition in life is to guess where we're going to be in the house next and then try to cut us off at the pass. They're under-footer cats. Nasty. The cat we got a few months ago is growing at an alarming rate. I sure hope he stops growing - he's already a giant pain-in-the-ass at his present size.

It was early morning and he's waiting for his treats, but as soon as
that sliding glass door moves he's off to under the deck. When he
hears the door close he's back for his treats. He knows me and
sometimes he just backs off but stays on the deck. His partner Joiner
will sometimes step inside and rub noses with the inside cats. As
soon as the grass drys they are off to hunt... they hunt all day
between naps in the barn... they have a heated house and water bowl
there too. I can tell when their hunting was good because they don't
eat much when they return for the night. During summers they spend
most nights in the barn and come to the deck first thing in the
morning, spend just long enough to check out and mark their territory
and off to hunt again. They hunt in the back near the barn, they
never go out front near the road... they don't like the sound of cars.
They sometimes hunt the house side of the creek but never cross to the
road side. They much prefer to hunt the creek that runs behind the
barn, lots of frogs and small fish there. During warm weather they
stay out of the wildflower meadow too, there are vernal ponds and the
Canada geese nest there, they know not to mess with those geese....
they will walk among the herds of deer but not near the geese. When
people visit I warn them to keep their distance from the geese.

There's nothing human about metric, a foot beats a 1/3rd meter, more or
less.

It's almost tropical over here too. Last night it was a bone chillin' 72°F
and today it's expected to reach a blisterin' 81°F.

The feral cats over here have it pretty good. Every time I drive into the
parking lot they're just lounging around. If you ask me, they should be
doing what wild cats are supposed to be doing - huntin' and killin'. These
kats won't have anything to do with that kind of stuff. They lack ambition,
drive, and initiative.

Our cats' main ambition in life is to guess where we're going to be in the
house next and then try to cut us off at the pass. They're under-footer
cats. Nasty. The cat we got a few months ago is growing at an alarming rate.
I sure hope he stops growing - he's already a giant pain-in-the-ass at his
present size.

Oh dear. <g> I am surprised they are not eating the wild chickens. Heck
there are plenty of them, just running around! What do they hope to achieve
by being a pest? What do they eat?

I am sure you love your cat. Just think, if he gets very big, he can defend
you from the wild ones
