Default Kasha Varnishkas, has nothing to do with varnish

One major dish done... actually more labor intensive/time consuming
than the turkey... took 4 hours including clean up:

'Zactly. I use the 60+ year old recipe, even then I knock it up to
notches unknown, use eggs and think schmaltz. Use Wolf's "Whole
Granulation".

It might be traditional for Thanksgiving in your family. To me it looks
like a big mess.

Exactly right, but it's got schmaltz, so probably some type
of jewish penicillin I guess. It's medicine, not food.

I've never eaten this dish and probably will never get the opportunity
to eat but I would like to try it at least once.

A hundred years ago I ate buckwheat pancakes at a restaurant. What
they mixed, if anything, with the buckwheat I don't know but they were
mighty good.

Soba noodles (= with buckwheat) are very good too. Wayne's just trying
to out-bigot Sheldon.

Like Bruce, I'm fond of soba noodles. I'd be willing to try
kasha varnishkes, but most recipes for it look horribly bland.
Kudos to Sheldon for using mushrooms.

I'll stick to bread dressing with spicy pork sausage in it.

I keep looking at it and without googling a recipe, I think the main
part I wouldnt like is the pasta addition. The rest seems to be
buckwheat cooked in probabably chicken broth until absorbed? Oh and
mushrooms added.

A spoon or 2 at the side would have gone well on my plate.

"disgusting" is overly dramatic. The dish has no strong or potentially
offensive flavours in it, so the worst it could be is bland or boring,
not "disgusting".

Oh, I don't know. I've eaten some foods that people were simply swooning
over that I found absolutely disgusting. Disgusting enough I had to
spit out what I had sampled. Boiled chittlins' come readily to mind.

Hahaha; Alpo would be a great upgrade from this slop. I
would accept cheaper store branded dogfood if that was the
best offered

Yes, but buckwheat, pasta, fat, onion? What can be disgusting about
that? Unless the cook is terrible, but I thought we were talking about
the dish as such, not the cook.

The dressing sounds good to me. Never had it with sausage,
just giblet gravy, but would definitely try it. Beats hell
out of alpo dogfood or jewish varnish!

Maybe they used rancid chicken fat; I don't know as I stated previously
I've never had this dish nor the opportunity to sample it. But I would.
