Thanks, Dave! I noted yours in October even if I didn't comment.
Happy belated!

Thank you kindly. Drop by tomorrow and I'll fix you a hearty plate
of food. Sorry, there will be no alcoholic beverages available to
consume. Plenty of iced tea and a great variety of soft drinks, though.

We're not dumb. We have it before the winter turns nasty ;-)

Pshaw! Winters are generally not nasty down here in the South.
Jill is farther South than me and on the coast so her winters
will be even milder than mine.

I like having Thanksgiving in November. I can usually use the
great outdoors as an overflow fridge. Plus, in early October,
we're still likely on air-conditioning and I don't want to run
the oven.

I'm going to haul the turkey up out of the basement fridge early,
give it a shower, and put it on the (cold) gas grill to await
stuffing. I'll probably put the carcass back on the grill
overnight and boil it tomorrow.

Then again, we don't travel or have people travel to visit us.
If the weather is bad, we just hunker down and cook. OTOH,
if the weather is good, we just hunker down and cook.

It was mainly the travel that I was thinking about. I know that it is a
major travel holidays of the year and the first snows can cause some of
the worst travel woes.

That reminds me..... I had to ply out to Victoria by way of Edmonton.
There was snow on the ground and some sort of precipitation happening.
Thank goodness I did not have to go outside, but the plane got de-iced
just before take-off. I know that it is a good thing to be de-iced, but
it is still a little disconcerting to know that they have to take
special safety precautions just as you are about to go where man was
never really meant to be.

It makes sense because that's when the harvest happens way up North.

Down here, my azaleas are blooming again:

President Lincoln declared US Thanksgiving to be the fourth Thursday in
November. Maybe some historian can explain why *Thursday*. It seems
like an odd day to choose. I'm pretty sure in 1863 people weren't
thinking about a long holiday weekend. (laugh)

Cindy, I do pretty much the same thing. We have a three-season porch that gets as cold as the outdoors, so I put the outdoor plant shelves in the porch for the winter. In the late fall, the porch is a walk-in fridge, by December, it's a walk-in freezer. It's not quite cold enough in NH to put the turkey carcass out there this afternoon, but by tonight it'll be in the low 30°s if I open a couple windows.

We'll be having a very quiet holiday season this year, the mom of the largest family that usually comes, my young cousin, has been diagnosed with ALS, and it's going pretty fast. She can no longer travel. My son's family can't come because of work commitments. So that leaves me, hubby, and two bachelor brothers-in-law who barely talk. It sucks being the only female in the family.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

Back then, a Thursday off would have meant a midweek break, not a long
weekend. People typically worked 12 hour days, 10 hours working and 2
hours for meals, and they worked 6 days a week.

No matter what they were thinking about weekends, food, etc. back
then, they got it all wrong. They're all dead now. ;-o

Maybe because of the "Th"?
Declared nowadays, it would be Tuesday because of the "Tu" in
"Turkey-day"... ;-)

Have a good time!

Bye, Sanne.
