Anyone miss me? I blew a computer Friday and am in resetup mode with
XanaNews. (Freeware, not as spiffy as some but easier and flexible enough for me). Need to fix my display name back to what you folks expect to see and then fix some coloration that makes things easier to read. Then fix my bozo-bin handling of course ;-) Carol |

You just never know if it's going to turn on or start another grueling update cycle. My PC gets updates overnight, reboots, and it's good to go the next morning when I come in. OTOH, I never power it down because it's where we do our nightly software build. Cindy Hamilton |

I was trying to shut down one night and it decided it was going to update and shut off.... do not turn computer off. I was upstairs watching TV and the wifi signal is a little weaker there so I brought it downstairs and sat it on the table by my desk top. After it had run for about an hour it had achieved all of 3% of the update. The next time I booted up it had to complete the update. A few days later I had to take my car to the dealership for some work and brought my laptop along to keep my occupied. I had not even had a chance to log on to their wifi when it started another update. That one took about 15 minutes. I would hate to be using one for something important at work and to have it start an update. |

That might be the solution for people with old computers that want to move away from Windows. I might try Linux yet again if a spare clunker of a desktop machine comes my way. OTOH, if I wanted a desktop system, I'd probably just dump the old hardware and get a Chromebox. |

People like to come across special or unique. One way to achieve that is to express hatred for the operating system most people use on their PCs. Windows 10 works fine for me. |

The problem for me with Windows is the high price of the hardware, the high power consumption of the processors, the long wait time to boot up, the need for anti-virus programs, the vulnerability to malware, the software bloat and heavy system resource requirements of the OS, and the long wait time just to shut down. Other than that, everything's just wonderful. ![]() |

Despite being super careful, my D-I-L got hit with ransom ware. Obviously acquired from whom she once trusted. However, my son had backed everything up, as he does regularly so either bought a new PC or hard drive. |

Using a flash to transfer everything was a 2 minute snap. But when I first used W-10 well over a year ago it about drove me nuts. Updates aren't bad, most time I've encountered are about 30-45 minutes. This ASUS is fast but it does have some annoying quirks that aren't apparent until you use it. Quirks that can't be changed. |
