Default Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to one and all.

It is quite here for a while. Our dinner guests just left. My wife
headed off to church. She should be back before midnight, and our son
gets off work at midnight, so he should be here by by about 12:30.

We may do the present thing when he gets home. We plan to have a special
breakfast in the morning and then he has to be back to work for noon
tomorrow.

Merry Christmas to you to, Dave.

We'll be ging to MIL's in a couple of hours, to partake in the annual
skinned and overcooked turkey. There will also be a big spiral-sliced
ham there, and I'm taking two desserts, so I won't starve.

Christmas is a bit of a bummer fo me this year, because I am taking
antibiotics for diverticulitis, and I can't drink while taking that
particular drug. :-(

No alcohol for me from Dec 19 to Jan 2.

Dave Canuck has no Christmas spirit, he hijacked my post and deleted

Merry Christmas! We were very lucky with our weather - perfect on
Xmas Eve for the main party here, not so great Xmas Day driving across
the bridge to get to the top of a hill in Dartmouth through sludgy,
crunchy, salted bashed up ice. Coming home the road was bare but the
wind was extreme, not nice up on the bridge. Home about an hour when
the power went. Today could not be more perfect, bitterly cold but
bright sunshiny day.

Yesterday my daughter cooked a turkey from the same place we have been
buying our chickens. Free range and the woman who has them says 'They
only have one bad day in their lives' - the turkey was great!

I haven't had an actual Christmas tree in about 30 years. Who needs
pine needles shedding all over the place (requiring a tree skirt). A
pan of water to try to keep it from turning brown too fast. Decorating
it, then taking all the decorations down. And disposing of the tree.
That stuff is for folks who have children who expect presents.

My oldest brother made that ceramic tree for our Mom when he was 12. He
insisted I keep it.

I don't decorate much but I do have this on a table in the living room:

https://s10.postimg.org/swmvbvjix/ornaments.jpg

The red glass bowl was a gift with some flowers my SO sent to me. The
fabric ornaments in the bowl were sent to me by a former RFC poster a
long, long time ago.

You're lucky you can do that. I can't plant trees on the golf course. LOL

I have an 12 inch tall artificial tree, permanently decorated,
that I use some years; this year being one of them. Other years,
I buy a live, potted tree, 15 to 18 inches tall; after Christmas,
I plant it, when weather permits. I have done the live tree 4 of
the past 5 years; one died, the remaining vary from surviving to
thriving. This was a revival of a tradition from when my
children were quite young. I have several 30-40 foot evergreens
in my yard that are former Christmas trees that I, with my
children's "help", planted many years ago.

For the record, I never once even considered sleeping with you. And
you know that. You're the one who somehow got the idea that I was
going to move in with you - and you posted that to RFC just out of the
total blue.

After having met you twice at casual austin.food gatherings 2 or 3
years ago and not giving you any indication that there was any sort of
romantic interest in the least, you somehow twisted that into MY
MOVING IN WITH YOU?

That was just way too Psycho for me. I sat there at stared at the
screen for at least 15 minutes wondering, WTF? That was just way too
spooky. I've met weird, semi-psycho women before but you win, hands
down. Mapi of austin.general still holds the male title, but at least
he announced his psychosis right there lying on the floor of the bar
at B.D. Reilly's rather than romantically obsessing over me for 2
years.

Needless to say, you need to come to terms with what happened and why
your mind works that way and stop making up excuses for your fixation
and disappointment before we become the next Yoli and Michael. I'd
prefer you use a sniper rifle on me from a few hundred yards away.
There you go - a reason for you to buy yet another gun and ammo.

And Jeremy, I was just tired of your decade of bullshit and visions of
grandeur about all these things you're "working on" or have not done
in the past. Even posting a call for meetings with imaginary people
about imaginary projects of yours at "the normal time and place", as
if you are somebody important with a life. I'm pretty sure you're
manic depressive mixed with habitual liar.

Sorry I don't fit either of your Ideal Psycho Pal Profiles.

My wife insists on a real tree. I finally learned to get out early to
buy one at the local fruit stand. He always carries a range of sizes and
if I put it off too long there were only big ones. They cost a lot more,
take up too much space and I end up having to lop some off.

We have a lot of ornaments, most of which are off sentimental value. It
is part of our Christmas to put the tree up and to adorn it..... and to
take it down and to pack up off those memories.

There's no reason you can't plant a live tree, plant it close to your
house. There are hundres of Dwarf Conifer varieties, many make
perfect Christmas trees... I've planted some as foundation plantings.
http://www.coniferkingdom.com/dwarf/
This is a world reknowned wholesale grower, many larger plant
nurseries carry their stock:
http://www.iselinursery.com/
I have several of their Colorado Blue spruce; Fat Albert. but they'd
grow too large for you:
http://www.iselinursery.com/colorful...ns-fat-albert/
I have this too, one of my favorites, would be perfect for you:
http://www.iselinursery.com/colorful...a-jeans-dilly/
I plantedd it 15 years ago was about 24", and it's now about 4' tall.
You may love it as I do but there are many more to chose from, you
have no excuse. This is a beauty, hummingbirds built a nest in
mine... as you can see it's planted right next to my house, right in
the front corner, a perfect spot to decorate with the new LEDs:

After my daughter grew up, I quit putting up a real tree. Loved
putting them up the day after Thanksgiving (traditional here) but
a pain in the butt taking them down afterwards. I don't bother
anymore. I did almost put one up one year just for ferrets to
enjoy. The young one would have loved climbing in it. The older
one would have been happy just sleeping underneath. Ferrets are
easily satisfied with new things.

I also have the little ceramic tree like Jill showed but mine is
colored green. My father in law made that in a crafts-class many
years ago. I didn't even get that out this year...bah humbug!

Right after the Christmas snow the sun came out and the temperature
rose to the mid 30s so I figured I'd better plow the driveway as the
temps were supposed to go into the single digits in the afternoon
and I'd have a solid ice driveway. It only took me an hour with the
plowing and a little shoveling... also drove the tractor out to the
barn to make tracks for the ferals to make it easier for them to get
to the deck to eat. Wasn't deep snow so was pretty easy as I didn't
have to plan where to put it:

There are azaela bushes next to the house, front and back. I don't have
*room* for planting trees. Don't want them growing into the roof at any
rate. The yard has a built-in sprinkler system so if I go digging I'll
hit water, and not in a good way. LOL

They were very popular years ago. When my wife had her ceramics
business we had a mold and starting in October I poured one a day and
later fired one a day in the kiln. Green was the most popular by about 3:1

treat you like Julie, I'll never again offer you any help because I
won't read your posts.
