I know what it is. I bought it for two specific recipes. One is a hominy
casserole that I will likely make once and never again. I just bought too
much and wanted to find another use for it, which I did. Chicken.

Probably but cream is not something I would normally buy or use which is why
I asked.

It wasn't a dumb question to me! I'm sure that both of my grandmas were very
familiar with cream. Maternal lived on a farm and often made her own butter
and ice cream. Paternal grew up on a dairy farm.

As a child, I can only ever recall having cream in the house once. I asked
for it to make butter. My mom wasn't much of a cook and never made anything
with cream. And most of the time, the milk that we had was powdered.

I tend to eat more whole foods for myself like beans, rice and vegetables.
So cream in any form is not something I ever dealt with much.

Maybe it's a Dutch thing. It's called "half om half":

It is my fault that I bought too much but it was also far cheaper to buy it
that way. I did mention chicken. I thought someone might be able to give me
a recipe. But no. Only grief. So I'll post the recipe I will make later.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/49497/o...hicken-dinner/

I do not have mushrooms or artichoke so will leave those out. Have not
decided on the sides but am thinking maybe some form of potato and a salad.

I specifically mentioned chicken. Again, I will post the recipe I will use:

I won't eat it but hopefully the others will like it. I have a lot of
Spanish rice left so will have that.

Oh dur. If you want to make a mountain out of a molehill, here goes! I
planned to make several batches of the quiche for the freezer The gardener
and I had a talk about diet and food the other day. He is wanting to change
his diet and I agreed to help him with this, adding that I would have to
phase it in gradually so we could use up the food that I already have. I
think mostly I will eat the things he doesn't want. Such as wheat pasta and
white rice. He wouldn't get sick if he ate these things. He is just trying
to make strides as to what he feels a healthy diet is. And yes, this is
debatable but... I won't argue and I will try to accommodate.

He is often in a hurry when he leaves here. Has to get to a job or just
stopped by to swap out some tools or something. So he needs grab and go
foods. He has been mostly relying on pre-packaged stuff and breakfast
burritos from Costco. He has been having some issues that I won't get into
here. That's nobody's business but I think the change in diet will help.
Mostly I think he needs to eat more protein and fat.

I suggested the quiches because they fit those parameters and are far less
expensive to make than buying the frozen burritos. I knew I would be making
several batches, but wasn't entirely sure how many I would make. I used ham,
bacon, sausage, several different cheeses and several kinds of veggies. I
wound up making 4 different varieties.

I already planned to make the hominy casserole. Here it is, but I will not
be putting the breadcrumbs on top. He likes hominy and this fits the
parameters of how he wants to eat.

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/r...serole-3199310

As you can see, it calls for the half and half. The quiches said to use half
and half or milk. I figured the extra fat would be a good thing. But then in
looking at the smaller containers, I quickly realized that it was far
cheaper to buy the larger one. Saved me from having to do math too.

So there you have it. And I will be making some chicken with the half and
half later. I will make the hominy tomorrow and where I go from there
remains to be seen. If I have more half and half left, I might make a
vanilla pudding and top it with peaches. He likes peaches.

Sorry, I just have to ask. WTF is "Woo Hoo chicken?"

I'm pretty sure you can't buy that in Canada.

True dat!

I typically use whole milk or heavy whipping cream, but there is one
thing "half n' half" is good for. The greatest hang-over remedy known
to mankind! Tequila and half n' half. Gar-own-tee!

Why can't you people just put it in your coffee, like the rest of the

Next time, use it as a douche. It will leave you feeling clean and
refreshed. And the gardener will notice it too.

Good luck!

It tastes like chicken, but it smells like fish.

This is the recipe minus the artichokes and mushrooms. I did use less butter
and I think I should have used less still. It was a tad greasy.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/49497/o...hicken-dinner/

I used mashed potatoes and corn as sides. In retrospect it was a rather pale
meal. I was going to make a colorful salad but my greens went a bit colorful
and not in a good way. Didn't have very many left anyway.

I'm going to go cook that turkey wing now to flavor my lentils for tomorrow.

Some here would call it "used meat". It's a sticker that they use at the
Fred Meyer stores when something is reduced in price to get rid of it
quickly. The meat usually needs to get used right away but not always. I
once bought some cheap sausages that were not even close to expiring. The
problem? Everyone who tried them said they were awful.

I asked for a chicken recipe. I did find that on my own. Telling me to put
it in coffee, on cereal, to drink it or to use it in place of milk were not
very helpful. I do make mac and cheese or mashed potatoes on occasion but I
have no clue when that will be next. Yes, I served mashed potatoes tonight
but I had coupons for the Bob Evans making them super cheap. Just heat and
eat.

I explained the quiches because someone was questioning why I made them.

He is staying here, yes. Not living. And not in the house. I have a building
in the back where he is staying until he gets enough money saved up for his
next adventure. He's not just a gardener. There is much more to this story.
I won't tell it here though. Not now anyway. I'll just leave everyone
wondering!

Might be cheap where you're at. Isn't here unless you get the really cheap
kind and I don't get that. This was just close to expiring.

My mental health professional has directed me to apologize to this
group at large and to Marty and Steven in specific for acting out
here. A change in my medications is being made to address a disorder I
have been experiencing this summer. I will be monitored, but I am no
longer allowed to engage in certain activities I previously have
enjoyed as they exacerbate my condition. I apologize for being
disruptive, in a better state of mind this was generally not an issue
for me.
