I know. You'll probably say that you don't eat it. I also know that you can
usually sub it for things you would put white rice in but for some things, you'd have to cook it first. For the most part, I seem to go back and forth between Asian dishes, such as fried rice or stir fries or Teriyaki with rice on the side. Or Mexican/Spanish type things. I either make it a main dish with beans and chicken or ground beef with appropriate seasonings, or as a side dish with some Mexican seasonings. I am wanting to branch out with it, such as side dishes. Steak is a real winner for a meal here so perhaps something that might go with that. I am thinking that things like Rici e Bisi (or however it's spelled) wouldn't work well with the brown rice. I do put it in soup, especially when there is just a little left over, and I intend to do vegetarian type sides with it such as peppers or zucchini stuffed with beans and rice and perhaps some cheese. Any suggestions? I don't have to eat it myself so anything goes, except for mushrooms or yogurt as those are not well liked here. Thanks! |

She'll never find the grape leaves and probably wouldn't like them anyway as they are somewhat bitter, like her temperment. lol However stuffed cabbage is just as good and easy to prepare. Cabbage is on sale all over right now. Prepare a big potful, stuffed cabbage freezes well. After rolling all the large leaves I rough chop the rest of the cabbage(s) and cook it all together in a large pot so I'll have the stuffed rolls and cabbage soup. Add squished canned tomatoes, sliced carrots for color, and a handful of raisins and the juice of a lemon for sweet and sour. Only seasoning needed is s n'p and maybe a couple three bay leaves... D-lish. |

Why don't you cook up a very big pot full of brown rice, then portion it out in containers and freeze it. That way you will have ready cooked brown rice to use in a lot of different recipes. All you have to do is thaw out a container of it and make your dish. |

Why don't you cook up a very big pot full of brown rice, then portion it out in containers and freeze it. That way you will have ready cooked brown rice to use in a lot of different recipes. A lot of people around here do eat the stuff. I never thought I'd see the day when Asians would eat brown rice but it has come to pass. Then again, I never thought I'd see the day when cats and chickens would congregate. This world is full of surprises. |

A lot of people around here do eat the stuff. I never thought I'd see the day when Asians would eat brown rice but it has come to pass. Then again, I never thought I'd see the day when cats and chickens would congregate. Piggy soup.
Brown 2 lb ground beef and a chopped onion. Drain fat. Add 28oc can tomato sauce, 28oz diced tomatos. I use campbells tomato soup when i dont have tom sauce. 1 med cabbage cut your liking 6 beef bullion cubes Quarter cup brown sugar Shake of pepper and a good shake of garlic powder. I use real. 2 cups brown rice, cooked or not. Simmer away. Sub green peppers for cabbage if pepper soup preferred. |
