Â* Thinks my wife is cruel and mean and it's just not fair ! We supped
last night on leftover pot roast and fixins' . After I got my veggies
and some au jus she just dumped the rest of the container onto her plate
.. Well , when she was finished with the meat and veggies , there was
still a good bit of au jus left on her plate , so she picks up the plate
and drinks it ... and the dog just looked at her , so hurt , so pitiful
.. He thought that was his - she just looked at him and told him it was
just too good to give him . But I noticed that she did leave him some .
So did I ... that damn pup is so spoiled ! I guess he's not really a pup
any more , he'll be 2 years old in late July . We're seeing signs of
maturity . Occasionally . In the dog too ...

WTF is "au jus"? Meat served with pan juices are served au jus ....
with juice.

Â* No , this was last night . I brought the 2 honey supers in just an
hour or so ago . Yesterday I put on the 2 hives what is called an escape
board . It goes between the box you want to harvest and the main part of
the hive , has a maze on one side and a hole at the center on the other
.. It's easy to get out , getting back in is a bit more difficult . The
idea is that there are no bees left in the box you want to harvest when
you take it off the top of the hive . I'll be extracting 18 frames
tomorrow , likely yield around 18-20 quarts . These puppies got some fat
comb !

Many years ago my mother, brother, and a about 10 year old nephew had
gone to the country. We stopped at a house that had bee hives and a
sign in the yard "Honey for Sale."

My mother and I were explaining to the nephew about bees and honey who was intently watching those bees come and go through that small inch or less
slit at the bottom of the hives. We told him about bees visiting flowers
and coming back 'home' (those white boxes he was looking at) and making
honey. Then the bee keeper comes along and takes some of it and that's
why we're here to buy the honey. He was quite absorbed in watching them
come and go and under his breath he says "and they're sneaking out."

Needless to say we burst out laughing and explained once they came back
to the hive they weren't prisoners. They were free to come and go as they
please.

Ahhhhhhh, kids.
