You stay in your house all the time. 40 and windy would feel great to you for a few minutes. Stay/work outside for 6-8 hours when it's 40F and windy, you will feel differently about that. ![]() Again though...I sure would enjoy a day or two like that right now. Today here started out hot and humid. It just finished a downpour at 8am. When the sun comes out later and evaporates all that wet ground, it'll turn into a steam bath here today. And now 2 hours later..the sun is out and the humidity is brutal outside. |

I however go out an work in it for hours, sweat my ass off, then come home with clothes soaked in sweat. Hey...it keeps me healthy. I come home, take a long shower and I'm good to go. 2nd wind. I actually do prefer staying active even in that harsh way, rather than sit home in AC all day. It's more comfortable but sitting home day after day bores me to tears. Yoose sit home reading a book and stroking your pussy cat. Bike riding is a good activity for the lazy. Easy to do and even when it's hot out, you are creating a nice breeze that compensates for the heat and humidity. You live very near the ocean. Do you ever drive there and play on the beach? The heat works well for hot and humid days at the shoreline. I've lived near the ocean for 100 years because I like it. Even the hottest most miserable day is perfect temp to play at the beach and in the water for a bit. ![]() And if you have any skin condition problem....a few hours in the ocean cures all. |

I believe it might have been sleeting lightly while we were installing our whole-house generator. I recall that kneading the electrician's putty was pretty difficult. I'd rather work outside at 40 than at 80. Cindy Hamilton |

I spent 28 years working in various departments of the government and most of that time was spent working outdoors. It's great on nice days, but, sadly, there are not that many good working days for outside work. Most of the time it is too cold, too hot, too humid or too windy. For the last 5 or 6 years I had to wear body armor and what a PITA that is. It keeps you warm for a while in the winter, but then it gets cold. It is hot as soon as you put it on in the summer. I used to joke about taking out the Kevlar and replacing it with freezer packs. |

We keep ours at 71 year-round, except in the winter the thermostat is programmed to drop the temperature to 66 while we're at work. If I come home for lunch and the temp is 66, that's fine. If I feel cold I put on a sweatshirt while I have lunch. Cindy Hamilton |

If I feel cold I put on a sweatshirt while I have lunch. I don't run AC constantly at a temp. It really does up the electric bill. In summer time, I normally keep the temp around 75-76. That temp and low humidity feels so much better than 95F outside. I do keep a bedroom fan running too. It's much cheaper for me to turn on the AC just for a bit, then turn it off. In winter, I maintain 68F and again, just turn on heat now and then. 68F feels so much better than 30-something outside. At night though, in winter time, I turn off the heat while I'm sleeping. I like cold and extra blankets. First thing in the morning, turn heat back on for a few minutes just to knock off the chill. The only time I used AC in the summer more often was when I had ferrets. They can overheat easily so much of my AC was for them only. Had to keep the little ones happy and healthy! ![]() |

We rarely run our A/C, but it has been on most of this week while we had a heat spell, which for us is the high 80s. I set the thermostat for 78 for cooling. The heat ended last night, so first thing this morning I turned off the A/C and opened the windows. In winter I have the thermostat set for 69 or 70 for daytime and down to 62 at night. I find that much more comfortable fore sleeping. |
