Default Food for the 4th?

I am doing something different this year. Serving things we all like as
opposed to what might be served traditionally on the 4th.

I'm doing Mexican food. Tamales, mini tacos, taquitos, beans, two kinds of
rice and of course chips and salsa. None of us are big dessert eaters but I
did pick up a package of rice cereal treats in red white and blue. Angela
said she would eat those. Will probably get a small amount of watermelon as
Angela likes that as well.

What are your plans?

I'm still thinking about it, probably shrimp with a tomato salad since we
have a lot of tomatoes that ripened, and garlic bread. It will just be the
two of us so not a lot of different foods. We are lucky that we can see the
fireworks from our front yard so just staying home. Have fun Julie, your
food sounds good.

I have tons of tomatoes but not many ripe ones. I'm sure this cold snap
isn't helping.

Once they start to ripen, you'll have more than you can eat each
day.

That's what's happening with ours, took a long time to start ripening, then
going like crazy.

Nothing better than fresh garden tomatoes. Eat all you can each
day plus can or freeze all you can stand to do too. You won't
regret the effort next mid-winter. No commercial canned tomatoes
compares.

The last year I grew tomatoes, I grew only 6 plants and from
about July 1 to mid August, I was picking about 14 ripe tomatoes
every single day for about 6 weeks. At end of season, I also got
a ton of green ones.

To heck with tradition. I can't imagine cooking things you don't like
just because some yahoo says hamburgers and hot dogs are "traditional".

I plan only to stay inside where it is nice and cool and cook/eat
whatever I feel like cooking/eating. Have fun!

It doesn't reach 70 until mid afternoon. Until then it is mid-50 to
mid-60 and the wind is blowing 20-25, humidity of 24. We are all
wearing a sweater or extra shirt. If you are standing in the sun in a
sheltered place it is nice. Remember, we don't have water coating our
skin like you do with your high humidity.

We've spent the last 8-10 days in the 90s, sometimes reaching over
100. The grass is always greener.

We're going straight to 96F tomorrow and the following days. I'm sure

Heads up! Looking at The Weather Channel this morning I see that the
cooler weather is traveling east and is promising below normal temps.

!!!! I can't believe they won't carry those standards. My store has
also re-arranged and put those items down the side aisles that butt up
against the meat cases at the back of the store. I left the store
without some of those things a couple of weeks ago when I went during
the middle of the weekday. Another day I went back and was the first
through the door and had a chance to go up and down all aisles and see
where everything was and found the pork stuff on a side aisle and the
brisket in a separate case at the foot of one of the side aisles. I
don't know what their re-arrangement plan is but it is really
annoying. Maybe it was time to dust.

Try looking at the "low" temp, Jill. Mid 40's and windy is COLD,
especially if it immediately follows much hotter weather. Stop
being an old biddy.

I've had hot, humid, calm mornings here lately...miserable to
walk out into early am. I would so love to see a couple of
mornings in the 40's with wind. "Oh what a relief it is."

My sympathies. Our temperatures have been in the high 80s, and up here
were start to melt at about 80. This heat wave is supposed to end and
it should drop below 80.

here) highs near/over a hundred with lows in the low 70's and upper 60's
.. And humid , very humid . Heavy dew most mornings , unless it's not
quite cool enough and then we get fog .

All those INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE powered crap worked VERY WELL for us in the part 150 years but that cheap Texas OIL is running out!

And we built a whole 2nd Industrial Revolution on it! And now we have to start building out the infrastructure for the 3rd Industrial Revolution:

I do the same thing Wayne. I use the remote to start my car as well
to get that air conditioning going. Even though I use a sunshade in
the windshield when it's parked, it's still hot as blue blazes in
there.
