We make a trip to Wegman's every couple of months. The nearest store is
30+ miles so we don't go as often as I'd like. Among other things, they had some really good looking sea scallops so I bought some. For dinner, I wanted to make the scallops with an orange butter sauce. To make it, I use a few tablespoons of frozen OJ concentrate so I wanted to pick up a can. Turns out, Wegmans does not carry frozen OJ. While I commend their good taste, using the concentrate for the sauce is much easier than reducing the regular stuff. In a large pan put in at least 3 to 4TBS of butter. Heat and add the scallops. Sear on one side and turn them over. Add a clove of garlic, chopped. When seared on the other side and cooked through, remove the scallops to the plates Mix in about 3 TBS of the frozen OJ, add a glug of either white wine or orange liquor. Stir and reduce a bit to the consistency you want. Pour over the scallops. We had a salad and warm sourdough bread to dip in the sauce. I made a sangria from sauvagnon blanc and added lemon, orange, strawberries, blueberries. I made it hours ahead. Dessert was the fruit from the pitcher of sangria. Damn, it was good. |

It was an wedding shower gift 53 years ago and still works like new. 1 1/2 to 2 oranges makes a decent amount. We also buy the same brands with pulp too. While good, they use a process that probably gives better yield but you also get some of the more bitter oils. |

Years ago I bought this citrus squeezer, paid $50. https://img1.etsystatic.com/124/0/58...33727_d6lf.jpg It's somewhere, just can't remember where. It's very easy to use requires no great strength and gets out the last drops.. it's a rack and pinion mechanism. But I stopped drinking OJ years ago once I learned how unhealthful it is, OJ is mostly sugar, it's far more healthful to peel and eat the whole fruit. We buy all types of citrus but we don't juice them. I can't locate the one I have for sale on line, probably discontinued, I bought it in the '70s. Now they have new and improved at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...=2IQ9IHHEHH93V |

Wegmans is known for its quality produce, reasonable prices and impressive selection €” the stores are huge! Meanwhile, as the largest employee-owned grocery store in the country, Publix is known for its excellent customer service and uses the motto, €œWhere shopping is a pleasure.€ Then there is this https://www.thedailymeal.com/cook/am...llery/slide-20 and this https://www.thebalancesmb.com/best-u...chains-2891790 Publix, which ranked second for the past four years, earned a first-place tie with Wegman's with. Each scored 77 percent on the Market Force's Customer Loyalty Index I've shopped both. Publix is a good every day market. Wegman's has many specialty items that Publix and the others do not have. I'm going to be less than a mile from Publix and will use it frequently, but if there was a Wegmans within about 40 miles, I'd still make the trip on occasion. Both are good, but they are different. |
