Here's an article I found with a short video at the end. I had forgotten
about using the plastic funnel if using a gas can. Heavens! I hope to
never run out of gas but the article was a good reminder.

I'm a lazy turd and I do admit to like not having to unscrew a gas cap.

The only "pro" that I could see for me was if I someday am too arthritic
to twist a gas cap.

Choice is good. Friend kept her married name after divorce because it
was easier in life to have a short easy to spell/pronounce than a long
Polish one that very few people can figure out.

I also have know a couple of young girls that would dreamily practice
writing their first name with future husband's surname

https://seattlebridemag.com/expert-w...-married-names
Still, the matter of a wife taking a husband’s surname didn’t surface in
English common law until the ninth century, when lawmakers began to
consider the legalities surrounding personhood, families, and marriage.
Thusly (as they would say), the doctrine of coverture emerged – and
women were thereafter considered “one” with their husbands and therefore
required to assume the husband’s surname as their own.

Under the concept of coverture, which literally means “covered by,”
women had no independent legal identity apart from their spouse.
Actually, this “coverage” began upon the birth of a female baby – who
was given her father’s surname – and could only change upon the marriage
of that female, at which point her name was automatically changed to
that of her new husband.

The receptionist at my doctors office was telling me that sort of
thing is a nightmare now, from her point of view My kids have all
kept their fathers name so all is well.

The only "problem" with children having different last names from their parents...and it is a temporary
problem, relatively...is when the kids are in school. But even that is lessening as time goes on and
more and more blended families are seen, and couples decide to keep their individual names.

You guys have too many states. I can't remember where they all are. I
thought Oregon was a fly-over state. But if you fly over it in the
wrong direction you end up over the Pacific.

It could have meant they spend winter in the warm state and summer in

Yes, I have my dh's name and so do my kids, 54 years ago most people did not
consider using their maiden name, but that was also when this song was a
hit. YIKES!

Yes, I have my dh's name and so do my kids, 54 years ago most people did not
consider using their maiden name, but that was also when this song was a
hit. YIKES!

I didn't want to give up my surname (and David understood that)
because I felt it meant a great deal to my father having lost my
brother. It actually, for once, had nothing to do with being a
feminist. However it certainly made my FIL detest me - ask me how
much I cared !

There are about 5 that I'd have correct if I had to point at them on a
map. And I know this:

Nevada = desert
Utah = multiple wives
Arkansas = Little Rock/Clinton
Texas = guns
Florida = alligators
Massachusetts = Bee Gees
Idaho = potatoes

It ain't much, I know.

Hahahahahaaaaa, oh Lordy.

But fair is fair; I know about as much about Australia and New Zealand
to fill a tablespoon.

New York = Sheldon & Dave
South Carolina = Jill
Virginia = Gary
West Virginia = Colonel
Florida = Soon to be Ed
Tennessee = Me
Missouri = Kuthe
Colorado = NotBob
Michigan = Cindy

If I've made mistakes with anybody's state, I'm sorry.

My 67 Barracuda had a trick fuel cap. You push the tab and the door snaps open. It was super fast, I loved that thing. Plymouth made it a part of the car design. It was big and chrome and said "Fuel" on it. For 1970, Plymouth went the opposite direction and hid the gas port. The license plate was mounted on a door that hid the gas cap. That was kind of dumb but I suppose it fit in with the car's extreme clean look.

My wife and I have a simple game to pass time when travelling... naming
the US states. We do it first in (almost) alphabetical order. Then I
do it by location. Then I identify the state capitals.

What are you, some 80 year old crone?
NY can be miserable in summer, hot and humid... NYC reached 103ºF
yesterday, was only 100º here in the northern Catskills and the
humidity was 82%... thank Trane for great A/C. I had planned to pick
tomatoes but it was much too hot in the garden, no shade either.
Spring in NY is good, fall is much better.
I have no complaints about NY winters, they don't last long and many
enjoy the winter activities; sking, snowmobiling, ice skating/ice
fishing on the many ponds/lakes, many love horseback riding in winter,
horses love it too. Oh, and the best part of winters here is no
schtinkin' biting bugs. In Florida there are massive biting bugs all
year, mosquitos have Sikorski printed on them, in Florida bug
repellent is purchased in 55 gallon drums.
Winter here is when the hot wealthy ladies
brouse the high end stores and think I'm not checking out their
bosoms, yeah, they know, that's why they remove their winter coats...
small is good too but I much prefer the hefty ones. Sometimes I go
down the road amd check out the Dairy cows. I get very excited when I
see the mommys feeding their calves, why can't human mommies have such
massive udders and monster teats... I can't blame those calves
resenting being weaned.

I remember when cars had the gas cap behind the back license plate. Do any
car makers put it there now? The only complaint I ever heard about that
location was getting a gas can to empty completely if you used one if you
ran out of gas.

Oh:
Tennessee = guitar pickers from Nashville

Dave's Canadian by the way. I know virtually nothing about Canada.

<snip fantasies of a 14 y/o>

Snow and skiing means it's cold. I don't want cold and I've seen
enough snow to last me a lifetime. I'm not saying NY State's a bad
place to live. Just that I'd prefer Florida weatherwise.

hahaha No kidding about being a lazy turd. I buy gas every 4-6

cap for a few seconds there. Get real!

In my opinion, the Pacific Northwest starts in nothern
California, then includes Oregon and Washington. Then really
carrys on northward with the coast of Canada and maybe even
includes the panhandle of Alaska.
Beautiful country there but rains way too much.

I think it is beautiful even in the rain, but I have only been there for
visits. I have good friends who moved out to BC and have never looked
back. My parents failed to appreciate the charm of the west coast. My
parents were married in 1944 and spent the last year of the war south of
Vancouver. My father was a flight instructor and my mother was only 21,
pregnant and very lonely. The rain really got to her. She said it seemed
to rain almost every day. One the morning of the day they moved back
east she looked out her kitchen window and saw Mt. Baker. She had not
seen it the entire year they were there, and if you have ever seen in
from that part of BC you would know that it dwarfs the surrounding
mountains.

That's a good question - I do not know if they still do that. These days, it's hard for car makers to come up with a location for plates. Some of the plate mountings on modern cars look kind of awkward or just tacked on.
