defrost.... I don't want to see any last minute posts asking what to do with a frozen turkey... because I will tell yoose to shove it up your nether region. |

Thing is nothing bad happens to a turkey thawing a bit longer in the fridge... also not everyone's fridge/freezer is set at the same temperature... a busy fridge will thaw quicker, a fridge hardly ever opened can need another day. Anyway my reminder was for those who forget to thaw altogether, and that occurs quite often, people get all caught up in preparing for company with baking and such and totally forget the frozen turkey. |

I added 1 day for 4 lbs so do basic math and you want 4 days plus a bit for a 14lb bird. Saturday. If one took it our Friday evening, that would be fine since kept fridged, they are fine for another 2-3 days. |

Better to be fully defrosted than to be attempting to dislodge the bag of giblets. I seriously doubt that Jill has ever roasted a turkey, or she'd not be carrying on so, Obviously Jill eats Thanksgiving dinner ALONE at The Club, and then comes home to indulge heavily on cheapo box vino ALONE. |

Some say 1 day for 5lbs but in my house, that doesnt work to defrost the core (fridge probably a little colder on that shelf). 4lbs a day works fine for everyine far as I can tell. |

No roast is better than a fresh ham, only for Thanksgiving turkey is traditional... but for Christmas or New Years I do a fresh ham, usually a butt half, we no longer have company on holidays. Kids have their own friends and it's too far to visit here. These days it's better to visit via PC and phone. And we enjoy our solitude with our cats and outside critters, and not having to travel through inclement weather. Right now it's snowing here. |

A complete hog loin wouldn't even comprise a light snack for this sailor. A couple of hams, 10 lb of potatoes and a few bushels of spinach provides him with a nice filling entree. |
