It's not weird. It's demographics. I've only ever encountered a ticket
system like that at the DMV. Definitely not when buying food, not even
at the local meat market.

I see it a lot at the deli counter. They also do it at the DMV here but
you can also make an appointment and they give you a coupon for a free
car wash.

DMV, plumbing/lighting store/deli counter/Costco eyeglass center, some
parts of Home Depot -- there's more, I know. But, Jill is single and
doesn't do a lot of the stuff that others do so doesn't go in many
different stores .

I don't shop for meats or cooked food at the deli counter at the
supermarket. I don't have to go back to the DMV until 2020.

I don't shop the deli counter at supermarket because I don't like cold
sandwiches or accompaniments like cole slaw, potato salad, etc. Maybe
they have a ticket thing, I really don't know.

I haven't had to lately but I've certainly shopped for appliances,
eyeglasses (I make an appointment), stuff for maintaining the house and
yard. There's no Costco here but a local hardware store, Grayco, which
always has staff availble to help, no waiting. No taking of tickets.

It's not a matter of being single. Stores are different where I live.
As I said, demographics.

In your contry, it's quite possible that they're armed.
