Default subway is overpriced

i know. franchise fees etc. our local grocer sells subs for $4.99. they are loaded with cold cuts, cheese, cole slaw, toms, and on a good chewy bread. a much better deal than the cold cut combo at subway. however you can only get the one sub with or without onions. no choice of veggies etc., but still, much better of a deal than subway.

I have tried Subway and was not impressed. I have found something much
better at a nearby pizzeria. The sell a focaccia sandwich that is
amazing. They sell them as a party tray the same size as a pizza party
tray and at lunch time they sell the individual sandwiches. The focaccia
in incredible and they are stuffed with a nice variety of cold cuts and
cheeses.
I just discovered this place about a month and a half ago when my son
came by with sandwiches, and he came by at noon yesterday with some. I
told my friend about them and we stopped in there one day a couple weeks
ago to get one and he was really impressed.

Years ago. they put a Subway in near where I worked. I went there twice. I
would have gone more times but they mysteriously vanished overnight. We did
have a place called Sandwich Isle at the other end of the strip mall. They
had good food and beer/wine. Regular sandwiches though. Not subs.

The thing about Subway was... They picked out the middle of the bread. Both
sides. Then stuffed it with whatever sandwich ingredients you wanted. I
always wondered what they did with the bread they picked out.

Some years later, a Subway went in near where I lived. I was shocked at the
change in them. Inferior meat and very little of it. Produce had seen better
days. The sandwiches were mostly watery shredded iceberg lettuce and bread.
No thanks!

I've never seen a Subway that removed portions of the bread. They used to make a V-slice into the bread which hollowed it out some. These days, they just make a flat cut between the top and bottom. Beats me which way is better but when the corporate office says to slice the bread flat, you cut it that way - or else!

Â* There was a Subway franchise store in Memphis that was shorting on
the makin's , got a lot of complaints apparently . They pulled their
franchise and somebody else opened another . Better product , and the
employees had a lot better attitude . Other than that one store , I've
never had a "bad" sandwich from Subway . The store here where we live
makes a great sandwich and we go there fairly often . We figger lunch
for two for less than 20 bucks isn't all that expensive - my favorite
restaurant is usually around 22-25 bucks for lunch including tip but
it's not a fast food outlet but a down-home sit-down place . They also
have the best sweet tea ...

They pulled it out by hand. Maybe they weren't supposed to but they did.

I am not against them hollowing out the bread. That would make the damn thing easier to eat!

The two I frequent have great sandwiches, quality meats, fresh vegetables,
as many condiments as you want or don't want. Pleasant staff, too, and my
favorite sandwich is the 'spicy Italian.'

I like Subway's chicken teriyaki and their meatball subs...but we have a small franchise called "Milio's," which is cleaner, more convenient for me, and they have a roast beef sub that is very good. That is where I get a sub sandwich if the mood strikes. That roast beef sub costs around $5.

I've never gotten a good one since those first few times. The Navy base at
Smokey Point had one. I think its gone now. I got a salad while we were
living there and had to pitch it. Everything was soggy and past its prime.

It was great! Had meat and cheese in there. Not just lettuce.

Default subway is overpriced

None of our Subway shops are super clean. As a matter of fact, one day when my granddaughter and
I stopped at one that is right off an interstate interchange, a "kitchen" employee came out from behind
the counter and started sweeping the floor while we were eating. He swept around all the tables,
including ours. I think he must have been an idiot...who wants to think about what kinds of dust are
being swept up and propelled into the air around their food while they are eating?? It kinda turned
me off Subway...well, that, and the fact that the food bins behind the sneeze guard are always a
total mess in every shop I have been in. Admittedly, that isn't a very big number. But here, Milio's
is better in many important ways.

here a roast beef sub costs about $10.00 for a 12". and they are stingy with their meat. yeah, you can get all kinds of toppings, but i'd rather have a good
sub with lots of meat. you can order double meat, but it gets pricey.

Not everybody likes lots of meat. I disliked Subway because they taste
horrible, but not because they're stingy with meat.

A 6" sub is generally more than sufficient for me. Here's my
usual:

At 620 calories, there can't be all that much meat on them.
