Default Dinner tonight 8/9/19

Tiny little new potato babies from the potatoes we recently dug, a
small cabbage cut early and a portion of wild caught salmon for each
of us. Watermelon for dessert

First fruits. I figure my garden is at least 6 weeks behind this
year. It has been unseasonably cool and always gray. Nothing is
happening out there. I think I see 5 tomatoes beginning to change
color. I've had 5 cucumbers so far. Never had a season like this
before.

Wait! What? Potatoes grow where you live? Just a few hundred miles from
your home, small potatoes cost a fortune at the supermarket.
Someday, I will be able to afford a few to boil, smoosh and fry. I'm
saving my nickels and dimes and looking forward to the experience.

I had three tomatoes. One strawberry. Some apples and pears. Yanked out my
herbs and not replanting. Even my flowers are sparse.

My dinner last night was the last pint of pea soup along with a
slice of multigrain bread. A raspberry filled donut for desert.

Last night was grilled kielbasa, green beans with a little bacon
grease, and bread and butter. Halo Top salted caramel imitation
ice cream for dessert.

I understand. I'm figuring that winter will come early as well.

I like bacon grease in a small skillet, saute some chopped onion, add
a tiny bit of sugar and some vinegar, add in chopped fried bacon. Pour
hot over cooked green beans, toss and serve.
Also works over leaf lettuce (wilted lettuce salad)

HOT BACON DRESSING
3 slices bacon

or and salad greens or cooked fresh green beans.

That does sound good, but for a quick Friday night dinner after day
at the office, I was happy to pull out that useful jar of bacon grease
from the fridge and slather a little on the beans.

I;I'll remember that tip. I have days when anything quick would be
good.
Although, I have been cheating lately. With all the talk over the
last year about how to cook bacon, I have been frying up a package of
chopped bacon and storing it in the freezer. Also doing a package of
unchopped bacon in the oven as well. Nice to have for BLT and so
forth.
