Default Do you have a "Magic Opener"?

If so, do you use it to open tab food cans? I can't get it to work. Slide
tab into slot at end of opener. Raise opener. Can doesn't break seal. Push
down on end of opener. Tab breaks off.

Help!

I bought it especially to open these cans!

TIA

Man has been cooking fer millions of yrs. It's only recently that man
has become dependent on "tab" cans. Pick a time when man had to cook
and plunk down. I've been leaning toward about 100 yrs ago.

I would suggest that you go to you local hardware, cooking supply or
department store and ask them for their best can opener that is designed
for cans with tab tops. Let us know how you make out. Oh... let me
guess, you wouldn't have the nerve to ask such a stupid question to a
real person.

Use a butter knife to lift up a tab. Any new gadget that contains
the word "Magic" should be avoided.

I believe you are supposed to rock the body of the opener toward you,
thus peeling the lid back toward you

If this is the one you bought maybe this short video from YouTube will help
you. At least it's better than the two rude answers you got from notbob and
Dave. Maybe when you two are in your mid-80's and a widower you'll remember
this when you need help.

I must've opened over a Zillion pull tab cat food cans with just my
fingers and never a problem... in fact it's rather rare these days
that I need to use my Swing-A-Way... oh, I needed it yesterday to open
a can of sliced beets... were it spinach I'da just given the can a
Popeye Hug but beet juice can be messy. I don't waste the beet juice,
it contains lots of nutrients, first I sip some to make room, then I
add a small pinch of s n'p. a glug of vinegar, and a tsp of sugar...
instant pickled beets, and I drink every drop of the juice. BTW,
pureed beets and beet juce make for extra D-lish chocolate
cake/brownies. I never dump the juice from canned or heated frozen
veggies down the drain, I drink it or freeze it to use in stewps...
most of the veggie's nutrients are in that juice. Dumping the veggie
juice is tantamont to dumping your coffee/tea and eating the spent
grounds/leaves.

It was a rhetorical question. I already know that there can't be a
funnier newsgroup than RFC.

I tend to give KenK the benefit of the doubt because he's not constantly
flooding the ng with a bunch of nonsensical posts. (A troll wouldn't be
anywhere near so restrained.) Not to mention his posts are so very
*benign*. He's asked about those pull tabs and gadgets before, though,
which is was set this off. I don't have an answer. I guess it's hard
to avoid those pull tabs if that's the way you're eating on a limited
budget.

you are you. People have all sort of problems, I use a tab opener
myself. Saves on fingernails and some of the tabs are tough for me.

The table knife handle is what I've been using, But still difficult for
me to break the seal. Keep hoping to find something easier.
