Default Bertolli olive oil, fact or fiction?

I broke down and purchased a liter of Bertolli Extra Virgin. I know they've had trouble in the past; being accused of selling adulterated oil. However I had hoped that the problem was solved. The stuff I have now has been in the fridge for 4 days. It has still not become solid. Most OO's I purchase become solid in the cooler. I'm wondering, is this oil still being trifled with? Thoughts?

I'm using it at the moment, it's fine IMO. I don't keep mine in the
'fridge though, just in the cupboard, handy beside the stove.

My only thought is, why in the fridge?

I did buy Bertolli when it was BOGO and I put leftovers in the fridge
and it did become pretty solid.

Theres no way to know. Whether the oil solidifies in the fridge or not
isnt a valid test. There are too many factors at play. Personally, I
wouldnt buy an oil that had been found to be adulterated in the past.
There are too many good oils out there to waste money on questionable ones.

Kept cool in the fridge will keep it good longer and if it
doesn't turn somewhat solid, you'll know that it's somewhat fake
evoo.

>From what I've read, put evoo in the fridge to see if it's real

or not. If it becomes solid within 24 hours, it's authentic. If
after 4 days and still not solid, most of it is fake.

I recently bought a quart of pompeian evoo. It's called "robust"
but it's not. It's fairly bland. I'll stick it in the fridge
now...(ok, just did that). I'll report back tomorrow and tell if
it turned solid or not.

I hate when that happens.
"They" tell us one thing then a few years later they say,
"nevermind."

Looks like Ed enjoys olive oil and uses it frequently, as I do. I've
got Colavita for cooking and something much nicer for eating raw.

None of it ever goes bad.

Are you sure that they're both the same "they"?

The best was when 'they' came out with butter and eggs will kill you.
We never changed to margarine, didn't like it, and I figured if eggs
were the nourishment for embryo chicks, couldn't be too harmful

From what I've been told/read, it keeps much longer and better refrigerated.. According to my um 'health book', it is supposed to turn solid, and when you need to use it, it is run under warm/hot water.

I think that's it. I figured that Bertolli would have their stuff together and not try to bamboozle the public. Maybe I was wrong.

You're correct about butter and eggs. My blood tests are fine; I eat an egg every day along with toast and butter. There's many nutrients in there.

You have to be careful with butter if you tend to have high
cholesterol. Eggs are ok.

4 years old? Throw it out, or at least don't consume it. It will be
rancid now, whether you realise it or not.

The engine oil in your car will become thick in cold weather, which is
why people living in cold climates use oil pan heaters.... my tractor
has an oil pan heater, in winter I plug it in a half hour prior to
starting.

There are many grades of olive oil. EVOO doesn't mean more than it's
a first cold pressing. Only Estate olive oils may have a strong
aroma/flavor but means nothing other than thats what some want. I
prefer neutral EVOO, I don't like olive oil that tastes/smells like
aromatic weeds... anyone likes those aromas can ride along while I mow
my acres... I don't like mowing mint but mowing milkweed is
reminescent of unbathed breastiness... I love the yeasty aroma of
sweaty unwashed bosoms.

I've got an 'onion keeper' and there is NO smell in the refrigerator when I
put a cut onion in it. The lid has a steel disk in the lid that 'captures'
the pungent onion smell. Oh, and never been sick off an onion stored in
the 'frig either.

As you bought a liter, it was clearly counterfeit. Next time by a litre!

I put my Pompeian bottle in fridge about 24 hours ago. Still all
liquid. I do have a small bottle of a different brand of evoo and
it turned solid overnight.

Not my fiction, that was told on a documentary. Most likely Good
Eats or maybe an episode of Modern Marvels. Again, I'll trust
them over Steve in Austin, TX.

The stuff I have now has been in the fridge for 4 days. It has still not become solid. Most OO's I purchase become solid in the cooler. I'm wondering, is this oil still being trifled with? Thoughts?

You may not trust Steve in TX, but you need to trust Jinx in MN.

OK, I yield to both you and Steve.
As far as what does turn, I have 3 oils, 2 I keep in the fridge
and the Pompeian evoo was in there for 2 days now and it didn't
turn. The other - regular olive oil did turn solid. The vegetable
oil is cloudy but still liquid.
