Default Brats , BBQ , and calzones

Â* The menus for dinner tonight , tomorrow , and Saturday . Because our
grandson asked ... well , just the main dishes for tonight and tomorrow
.. We try to make the g-kids visits special , and part of that is letting
them help with menu selections . Sides for tonight and tomorrow will
surely include that awesome potato salad that my wife made this
afternoon ... and probably some baked beans , whether canned or homemade .

Sounds good to me. Popeye will be here soon to **** on the festivities.

Then druce will show up with endless whining and ingredient lists.

I'm sure your vittles would suit me though.

Eggs in the potato salad? I like eggs in there.

I like eggs in potato salad, too, but I know a few folks who don't care for
them in their 'tater salad. I make Melba's Jammin' version and always get
rave reviews; "Steakhouse Potato Salad."

Just beans and potato salad sounds like a crappy cheapo meal.... what
goes with it... a roast fresh ham could save that poor man's dinner..

The GRAND CHILDREN decided this is what they wanted for their visit. There
will probably be other items but I see nothing wrong with potato salad and
baked beans myself.

What is it with a certain type of American men and their smokers and
BBQs? They always love to talk about it and compare notes. It seems to
go hand in hand with owning motorbikes, being patriotic and having
facial hair. Does this phenomenon have a name?

PS: They like to use silly nicknames, such as Snag.

LOL So, are you saying you soak them and then smoke them?? Hmm this is
waay out of my league)

If you were not going to smoke them, how would you cook them. Do you ever
cook them in a sauce?

You can't help that they gave you a nickname, but don't you find it
cheesy to use it yourself?

Soak-n-smoke , I like that ! Actually they more simmer right above the
fire rather than being in the other chamber of the smoker . I've never
"made" a sauce to cook beans in , let them make their own sauce as they
cook . My favorite is beans and ham , nothing in it but beans and water
, a meaty ham bone , some dried onion flakes and just a little garlic .
Best served with cornbread hot from the oven and slathered with butter .

Â*Â* I decided to do the "quick soak" method , bring the beans to a boil
and turn off , let sit for a few hours . I'm going to make this batch in
the slow cooker (that's what the recipe is meant for) since the last
(first actually) time I made this recipe and cooked them on the smoker
was a disaster . Get it figured out before I go making changes ...

I decided to do the "quick soak" method , bring the beans to a boil
and turn off , let sit for a few hours . I'm going to make this batch in
the slow cooker (that's what the recipe is meant for) since the last
(first actually) time I made this recipe and cooked them on the smoker
was a disaster . Get it figured out before I go making changes ...

====

Share your recipe? Will this work with all beans?

I have Black eyed beans
Dermason white beans
Cannellini Beans
Oh and I have a slow cooker

Any ideas well be very welcome.

I guess I know how to soak them and cook them ... but after that???

Seems like they have waned in recent years but most nicknames were a
term of endearment or from a physical attribute of a person. I've been
introduced to people with their nickname and it took a long time to
finally find out their real name.

Years ago where my FIL worked there were three guys working together and
all were named Tom. To avoid confusion, one went by Dick, the other
Harry.

Some people don't like their given name and choose to use a Nick.

Just look at the typical newsgroup and you see few real names.

I worked in a hotel, and we had three waiters whose nicknames were 'Andrew The Chinese guy', 'Big Ron', and 'Little Ron'.

I was named same first name as my father. He was always called
"big gary" and I was known as "little gary" even after I grew
several inches taller. Now, I'm "the only Gary." ;(

I also had the first name as my Father. Although we used to call each other 'Jimmy' and my Godfather was nicknamed Jimmy, and so was his father nicknamed Jimmy. None of us had that name as a birth name.

I always though the same name was more confusing than anything. Only
males, never heard of a female named after her mother. Gets even more
confusing if the next Generation would also have a Gary and Gary Jr is
older than the other Gary in the house.

I was named after an uncle and knowing him, I feel honored to have been
so named.

Try this to give you a start. There's procedure and timing for
different kinds.
https://www.wikihow.com/Cook-Dried-Beans

Once you know how to cook them you can begin to season them how you
like them in your house. You can make a sauce to surround the beans
after they are cooked and drained or you can season them to cook in
the sauce. Put chopped bacon or ham in the pot, some onion,
experiment with brown sugar or molasses or whatever flavorings you are
aiming for.

Here's how one person does it with a sauce. Leave out any seasoning
stuff you don't like.

You could repeat this by getting a new ferret and calling it Gary.

Druce is a much better name, but usually reserved for pet rats.

I've always thought of it as a male ego thing..to continue
the name.

> Only males, never heard of a female named after her mother.

I do work for one rich family. The grandmother was Jane. She
named her daughter Jane and the grandaughter was also named Jane
(but called Janie). So there's 3 generations. Maybe even more
from the past? Don't know or care. Very nice people though.
