Default My late lunch yesterday

Very late. Like at 4pm. First and only meal of the day but
very tasty.

https://www.hostpic.org/images/1910232222140097.jpg

You see broccoli, corn, peas, snow peas, 6 tater tots,
and 4 oz ham with that raisin sauce. Not shown was
one slice of 12-grain bread, toasted and buttered.

I was happy with just this one feast and done for the day.

Glad you liked it. Those tater tots look way too pale to please
my family. We cook them in the oven at like 500 F until they're
brown and crispy. (I might exaggerate about the temperature, but
we take them a good 50 F higher than the package specifies.)

I found other problems, but saw fit to comment only on one of them.

My husband and I are all the family we need.

It looks a bit like something Sheldon could make.

Have you ever cooked a ham steak on the grill? If not, try it sometime and
it only takes a few minutes per side. Rinse and pat dry that steak first to
remove any salt solution. Fried apples also go really well with the ham.

What you saw there was all frozen vegetables, thawed over
night with a lid. So they were now cold and I added the
cold ham with raisin sauce.

I took this picture right before I put a lid on and
microwaved it all to very hot. It was good.

And yes, those were plain tater tots just microwaved.
Even hot they were the same color. It was ok to do
that with this meal. The hot tots were just cut up and
eaten (in the same spoon) with green vegetables.
Didn't upset me.

I have said in the past though that tater tots are
'ok in a pinch' just microwaved. Better tater tops
are cooked in the oven. BEST tater tots are deep fried.

More than one? Please do let yourself go and say the rest.
I would honestly like to hear your entire review. I'll respond.

Note: if any is about presentation, I've said many times that
I don't care what it looks like just for me. I know it tastes
good. I would have served that differently if any others were
here.

Raisin sauce. I'm glad you liked it, but no fruit with meat for me.

We even eat our cranberry-orange relish for dessert at Thanksgiving,
rather than as part of the meal (or--shudder--apply it to the turkey).

I honestly don't see the point of tater tots if they aren't crisp. I'd
rather eat a slice of bread than a wet tater tot.

I'm not a fan of fruit with meat. I will make an exception with Turkey(it's traditional to have cBerry sauce along with), and duck. Pork, some people like an apple product alongside, but I don't.

i don't understand why it's a problem for anyone.
it's just food.

i like about anything with anything and often get
strange looks from Mom for some of my combinations.

strawberry jam and yellow mustard make an excellent
start to a bbq sauce. i like tart cherries with almost
anything. raisins i'm ok with on some things but not
everything. also like a lot of nuts on things or
baked in things.

if i'm hungry enough i'll eat raw oats by scooping
them in my mouth, chewing and washing them down with
water. fancy presentation is nice at times but at
other times i just want something to eat and don't
care too much how it comes down the line. i have
however found out i do have a preference in my
spaghetti and meatballs - i want some meatballs and
sauce to be able to put them on top of the noodles.
if some is mixed in i'm ok with that but i still want
some more for putting on top. i think it has something
to do with that song we used to sing as children...

on top of spaghetti all covered with cheese...

let the revolution begin!

I grew up with apple sauce frequently and I like fried apples.

I happened to have some fresh pineapple so since I was grilling some
burgers tonight I grilled the pineapple too. I had some on the side. I
also put some onion preserves on the burger.

On the side is fine. One of the best meals I ever had was shrimp tempura
with some cantaloupe on the side. The flavors complemented each other
perfectly.

The combo sounds odd but I won't critisize it. Might be fine.

A question too...if the flavors complimented so well,
what is the problem eating them together in one bite?

I don't either. I like many recipes that combine fruit
with meat. I also love coleslaw on bbq sandwiches.
Apple sauce on a plate is a good "palate cleanser"
just like wine is for many people.
Ham cooked with crushed pineapple is very tasty
once combined with the ham juice/fat.

> strawberry jam and yellow mustard make an excellent
> start to a bbq sauce.

Here's a recipe for you. A woman that lives in Alaska posted
this years ago in another ng. I tried it once. You don't
taste the blueberries much but it's very tasty.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Blueberry Barbecue Sauce

2 tsp. vegetable oil
1/4 cup minced onion
1 Tbsp. minced fresh jalapeno chile; seeded
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
3 Tbsp. light brown sugar
3 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
1 tsp. Tabasco
2 cups blueberries; frozen or fresh
Salt
Fresh ground pepper

Heat the oil in a non-reactive saucepan. Add the onion and
jalapeno and
cook over moderate heat, stirring, until wilted, about 3 minutes.
Add
the ketchup, vinegar, sugar, mustard and Tabasco and bring to a
simmer.
Add the blueberries and simmer over low heat, stirring until
thickened,
about 10 minutes. Puree the sauce in a blender or food
processor until
smooth. Pass through a strainer and season salt and pepper. Serve
at
room temperature.

Use on: Any kind of beefsteak, hamburgers, pork chops, chicken
Make Ahead: The sauce can be refrigerated for up to one day

Yield: About 1 1/2 cups

I'd rather taste the essential flavors of each, not a mishmash of
both.

Ok, just personal differences. I like the combo often if they
compliment each other. Not always in everything though.

Right, they have to compliment each other. Like a strong cheese and a
glass of red wine. Nice pairing.
