Well, yeah--lots of us are happy for Siobhan on the completion of
building her new home. Look at it this way: It actually has something
to do with food and cooking!! Here, have a piece:

* Exported from MasterCook Mac *

Chocolate Orgasm

Recipe By : posted to r.f.c. 11-21-04 by Barb Schaller
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Desserts

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 package Duncan Hines Chocolate Cake Mix
2 packages instant chocolate pudding
1 large tub of Cool Whip
3 Heath or Skor candy bars -- (or 4)
Chocolate chips (or shaved chocolate)
Kahlua (to taste....<g>..)

Prepare cake according to package directions. Allow to cool. When cake
is fully cooled, take a fork and pierce cake liberally. Pour Kahlua over
top of cake 'a la Julia Child', allowing to soak in (be careful not to
drown the cake). Prepare instant pudding according to directions, chill.
Chill candy bars.

In a trifle bowl, crumble about half of the cake/Kahlua mixture (chunks
should be about the size of golf balls, but no larger than tennis
balls). Remove 1 (or 2) candy bars from refigerator, and give them
several good raps on the counter (to break them up). Sprinkle over cake
in trifle bowl. Spoon half of pudding mixture on top of candy bars in
trifle bowl, followed by half of the Cool Whip. Repeat with another
layer of cake, then candy bar(s), then pudding, and finally Cool Whip.
Top with chocolate chips (or, my preference - shaved chocolate). Chill
for a few hours (about 4 hours seems right, but it usually doesn't take
that long for it to be "noticed" in the fridge).
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Per serving (excluding unknown items): 0 Calories; 0g Fat (0% calories
from fat); 0g Protein; 0g Carbohydrate; 0mg Cholesterol; 0mg Sodium

That's what I said in my earlier post (JEALOUS) but somehow I didn't see it get
posted. I'm sure the kitchen is gorgeous, lets see lots more pictures.

Champagne, left by the seller's broker, is the traditional
christening.

Perhaps more than that...

Not jealous... envy or covet - which would be another evil
of course, but I'm headed in that direction too so I'm not
saying it as a put down.

Like others have commented, it has almost the almost the
same square footage of some bedrooms. She built the house,
so she dictated what she wanted! We should all be so lucky.

Indeed! But make sure you are around to supervise the movers! I had all my
boxes labelled for the rooms they should go in. But I had the misfortune of
having had to rush my suddenly very ill dog to the vet the morning of moving
day. When I got to my new apartment, my phone wasn't working. (Turned out
the prior tenants had hard-wired an alarm into the phone system but didn't
tell anyone). So I went to the office to use their phone to check on my dog
and call the phone company to beg for repair that evening; I was terrified
my dog would die.

While I was gone, my ever-helpful older brother Paul told the movers just to
stack all the remaining boxes in the front bedroom. GRRRRR. Took me *ages*
just to find towels, soap and shampoo that night! Of course that box was
buried underneath boxes of hardback books.

You are obviously an idiot. Many of us have known Siobhan for years and
know how excited she is about having this house built. If you don't care,
skip the post but don't get assinine about it.

Experienced movers kinda develop x-ray vision, they can fairly accurately tell
what's inside 90% of the cartons, especially when it's books. If nothing else
movers know not to place lighter cartons under heavy heavy (certainly not on
the hand truck, definitely not in the van), after so many moves it becomes
sorta an involuntary reflex... seems a little incomprehensible they'd stack
boxes of heavy books on top of a relatively light box, especially since by the
third box of books the towel box would begin to collapse. Granted it's manual
labor but movers just ain't that dumb.

That's why I always pack one box with just those very essentials, and
hand carry it to the new place. I make sure I have in that box, all
the stuff I might want for a few days, til I have unpacked some of the
other boxes. I included toilet paper, paper towels, some silverware,
a few dishes, a pot and a pan and a few utensils for cooking.

I do the same with traveling about. I have one box that has toilet
paper, blackout curtains ( I am a night worker), a pot and a pan so
that I can cook, and a few other sundries that I know I will want the
first day or so. This box comes out first when I get to the new
apartment.

first day or so. This box comes out first when I get to the new
apartment.

Yoose obviously engaged a couple of winos off the curb (your unemployed
brothers), rented a u-haul, and got 'zactly what you deserved... 'cause I know
with absolute certainty that if yoose try to pawn off your fercocktah storys
otherwise you're lying. Professional movers would never stack cartons on a
dining table, in fact they'd have removed the table legs to move it. duh And
professional movers wouldn't place cartons on counter tops, or on top of
anything else... all items get placed on the floor wherever you point. I've
moved more times than I have fingers and toes and the most ever got damaged was
once a cup cracked. My last move was just a year and a half ago,
http://www.molloybros.com/mainpage.htmdid a perfect job.

I am glad you have had such positive experiences.

Mine were all professional movers, some of them very big cross country
movers. I cannot physically move stuff on my own, and I don't like to
use my friends to move, as it is a good way to lose friends.

I have had excellent movers and some really duds, that made me wonder
how they got a job with such reputable companies, and how they
continued working with such companies. I have had furniture damaged
because of some of them.

Nope. Hired a Paul Arpin company - and the driver hired his own 'helpers'.

They moved the trestle in and attached it to the table and then stacked
boxes on it unprotected.

I too have moved *dozens* of times (you may recall that I was in the Air
Force) and this is the second time that I've incurred damages. The first
time was almost 4 years ago and it involved chipping a piece of wood from a
chair leg. This time though... holy schmolies. It was awful. They seemed
confused at simple questions... and obviously made horrible decisions as far
as taking care of our items. They weren't even sure if they had any runner
carpets to protect the floors... and as previously stated - were too
ignorant to know not to stack boxes on a table - much less an unprotected
table.

Even professionals hire idiots sometimes. Rumor had it that they were
relatives...

High five, Cindi, as I'm an Air Force brat (and former corporate wife)
who has moved more times than I care to recall. We used to have a
saying in the AF: Every 4 moves is like a fire (as far as your
possesions are concerned). Every move was made with a professional
mover and every move had something cherished wrecked or damaged.

One exception was a certain dining room table and chairs my parents
bought that was blond , ugly, had claw feet on a pedestal, but was
Early Marriage Furniture. Every move we made, that table and chairs
made it through without a scratch. My parents kept praying that it
would be destroyed in one of the moves so they could put in a claim
and buy new. For 32 years, that table and chairs made it through in
pefect shape. Until they were transferred to Tinker AFB in Okla. City.
Dad saw that table come off the truck (again without a scratch),
picked it up and threw it across the garage. Said he'd eat off the
floor rather than look at that dining room table in his house again.

OB food: well, it *was* a dining room table.

Every experience I've had with professional moving companies (Atlas,
Allied, United) has resulted in serious damage to multiple items, and
hundreds of dollars in claims. My guess is that the companies often
underbid each other aggressively to get contracts, send out
undertrained/underpaid crews that work very fast and sloppy, and just
assume that a certain percentage of customers will file big claims.
Those expenses are built into their business model.

Federal regulations on interstate moving companies have been scaled back
in recent years, and consumer horror stories are quite common. This is
a nasty industry.

ObFood: we gave our moving crew some tasty snacks, and big tips, and
they still trashed our stuff.

I was lucky; they put the kitchen stuff in the kitchen before Paul told them
to stack the rest of the stuff in my (now) office. And the apartment
manager routinely gave out toilet paper and paper towels to new residents on
moving day
