someone gave us a frozen chicken pasty. i wouldn't
normally even buy such a thing anyways. but since i
absolutely hate wasting food i had to at least try it.

i followed the directions on the package which said
to microwave it for X minutes.

not being too impressed with the results of that i
had my doubts. the crust was mush. i peeled that
away to see what the stuff inside looked like.

a few cubes of chicken, some bits of green stuff that
were supposed to be brocolli, bits of orange that were
supposed to be carrots, some hint of sauce.

i ate of that what i could get scraped off the dough
but that amounted to about 1/2 cup total. the dough
was probably a cup and a half.

i wouldn't feed the dough to my worms, that's how
bad it was. to me to throw away food is very very
rare (we grew up hungry at times, i will eat about
anything even if i don't particularly like it).

obviously will not buy, but to me you have to be a
pretty cheeky manufacturer to even have such a product
for sale.

probably why it was given to us. they didn't like
'em either...

the pasties i used to get up north were pretty good
even the vegetarian ones i liked to have for a change -
not even comparable in quality or taste. there was a
local lady who made them for the store where i grabbed
them once or twice a week as an easy meal.

now i'm hungry for a real one that is good. won't
make them here. i don't really like pastry crust
enough to make things with it often at all. but it is
nice to have in a daydream when done right.

Yoose talk like a very picky and baby eater.
Typical of many here on this group though.

Why eat something that doesn't taste good? It's not worth
the calories.

Frankly, I would have thrown the pasty in the garbage right away,
without even tasting it.

This being Rec.Food.Cooking Bird Brain should cook her own.
This makes DeLish pasties using whatever bread one likes for crust:
https://www.amazon.com/Toas-Tite-793...NsaWNrPXRydWU=
Works best on a gas stove but works on electric coil stoves too.
I've never tried but I doubt it will work on a toys r us glass top.

Those aren't pasties. Pasties use pie crust. They are a handheld
pie, not a sandwich.

I've made hand meat pies with pastry crust and bread dough. The pastry crust would be more like a pasty, the bread dough could be called a calzone. One of them is definitely better than the other. :

When he lived in California, Popeye used to service the animals at
the donkey shows in Tijuana.

He's the best equine fluffer in the business.

Processed food SUCKS!

Process your own food, after all the NG's name is Rec.Foods.Cooking, not Rec.ProcessedFoods.Embelleishments! ;-)

You must be in here lost. This is rec.food.cooking, not rec.foods.cooking.
Im sure youd be much happier there than here.

i know what they intended but their cooking directions
surely did not deliver nor did the basic ingredients in
the thing. nasty stuff.

Their intention was to make a meat pie costing less than $.35 in materials. Mission accomplished.

You expect they know what to do for the best experience. I wonder if it
would have been better oven cooked.

it would have helped the crust for sure, but what good
is a crust if what it contains is little of nothing and
what is there isn't even worth eating?
